Trolling motor battery noise?

I have had my trolling motor battery on the charger and when I went to go check it, it was fully charged according to the charger. I noticed a bubbling boiling sound though. Anybody have any idea what is going in with that?

Slight bubbling while it’s charging is perfectly normal. If you smell sulfur and a battery is hot, it’s either low on water or it’s shot. You’ll need to get that one tested.

I’ll just add that if you hear any noise along with that funky odor/hot battery don’t disconnect the battery clamps. Un-plug the charger leaving the leads attached and come back to it a bit later. Gases can build up inside and around the battery if its unchargable-dead, or has a bad cell, that are super explosive. Removing the charger clamps can cause arcing if the unit is still running and things could go boom. The only thing worse than acid is hot acid mixed with pieces of battery casing.

I’m a lucky survivor of the exploding battery!

All that is left is the base and two posts. Pieces scattered 30′ in all directions. Lucky to have the ability to see after that!!!

I was feeling for my fingers to see if they were still attached as I hustled to the nearest hydrant with my eyes closed.. Since my hand was numb from the explosion.
