I run 2 group 24s for my older copilot, one of them is dead now. Question is. Is it worth it to buy 2 group 27s or just one 24 and keep running it. Is there a big difference or difference if I buy 2 27s rather then running 2 24s

    I would go get 2 27’s.
Mixing old and new batteries is never recommend, as you will truley never get the run time you should get from a new and slightly weaker battery.
If you can fit it in your budget, give a serious lookmat AMG batteries. Even if you stay in the 24 series, your run time will be longer.

Never run combination batteries of size or age. Personally, I would never run any combination smaller than 29’s for a trolling motor.

Were you happy with our old size 24 setup?
Did you ever run out of power during a trip?
Will larger batteries fit in your current battery box?
Are you trying to get more than one day out of a charge?

I would also recommend the AGM batteries as they will probably pay off in the long run for longevity.

Hi I’m curious how many years you guys get out of your atm batteries? I get an average of four out of my standard batteries.

The 24s I had were fine. The one 24 I put in was brand new and the other was old. I bought new 27s today and used the good 24 for the 12v tiller. I was happy with the 24s but found a good deal on 27s at fleet farm..

Bearcat did you buy the resulte fleet farm batteries? I have always had great luck with them tell last year. I had 4 replaced through the summer. All of them had a sticker 2/17 on them which might of been a bad batch. They were great about replacing them though. Just sucks to have the camper or boat dead.

Not to hijack the thread but why not run two different size batteries. I have a a 27 and a 24 running together and have for years, but that is how I bought it and never changed it due to room in the compartments.

    John,

I am wondering the same thing. I would think if both batteries are new at the same time it shouldn’t matter??

Different size batteries will have different cranking amperage and reserve capacity. Connection different sizes batteries together will cause one to work harder and break it down faster.
