How much of the green carrot tops can I trim up without jeopardizing the carrots? Our garden is getting pretty full and while out weeding last night, I wondered about trimming the carrot tops. Just a little to make the areas more manageable. I can’t even see where to step in between the rows anymore to weed in the back corner! Has anyone trimmed theirs before? TIA!

I don’t cut mine back but I have used some of that cheap decorative fencing that’s maybe 15″ high to keep the tops out of the dirt rows.

I just picked that last of the lettuce and yanked the plants so that the carrots can really spread out. lol

I picked the beans too and maybe get one more decent picking before they get pulled too. The beans were planted next to the potatoes and the spuds are about 4 feet high now so I need the access area where the beans are to start digging those monsters.

I have squash vines all over in both the veggie garden and now in Ma’s flower beds….these are the “bush” variety of course. Three hills and thus far I can count 16 nice squash.

I just read a recipe for carrot top pesto that sounded pretty interesting.

Say, that’s not a bad idea. I might consider doing that next year.

Hmmmm! I love pesto, but I’ve never made my own.

Ralphie, that was over 100 years ago. This was before color pictures were invented, so you’ll have to take my word for it. jester

I wouldn’t trim them. The energy needed to grow the “root” will go into growing new tops. If you like the size of the carrots now, it is probably not a problem to trim them.
