My main ram is going out. 98 Suzuki 115. The dealer I bought from is now out of business. Any thoughts on where I can get it repaired whether rebuilt or replaced? Looks like a huge expensive assembly.

Ouch. Sounds like you’ll have space to tear apart the Brute if you so choose. waytogo

Mike, I replace mine on the old Merc 14 months ago. I could of gone with a rebuilt one online, but elected to bite the bullet and go with genuine Merc parts.

Last weekend it was acting odd and found the ram seals leaking. Talked to the dealer and because of the way it’s built, seals can’t be replaced. I need a new ram @ $400.00 + install. (that I can do myself).

I haven’t heard back from the dealer today yet. They were going to call Merc to see if they could do something.

First ram lasted 15 years and I can’t get 14 months out of the second one. smash

PS with the age of my boat, I’m wondering if I shouldn’t have gone with the $400. less expensive ones that I could of bought on Ebay or Amazon??

$1200 why so spendy? When you say rams need to be rebuilt are they talking seals? Maybe to late but A-1 hydraulics in Little Canada probly be faster and less exspensive.

The people that have experience rebuilding these don’t. $1200. is for the motor, pump and ram/cylinder that lifts the motor.
Even the rebuilt ones I’ve found online don’t have a warranty.

At least with the Mercs, they don’t make a seal kit. A new cylinder/ram would need to be purchased.

There was something about a hole in the aluminum gets enlarged for the pump and they were trash.

I am making the assumption Dan’s is not trying to rip me off.

As an update to my ram/cylinder that needs replacing, West End Marine in Red Wing went to bat for be with Merc, and the part is being replaced at no charge.

West End has just never let me down!

The motor is 20 years old. I bought it new and it has served me well except for this and the two times i lost a piston……lol Otherwise its been flawless.
