I have to say, I haven’t even SEEN a walleye/sauger yet this year, but to be honest, I haven’t really tried real hard either. Most of my fishing has been crappies, and now I can say that they are starting to really move into their spawning areas with this nicer weather. In various places in the canal I’ve noticed them moving out of deeper water and I caught some Thursday up in shallow places I didn’t think I’d catch anything. I had 18, my dad had 15 and a whitey, so not too bad a day. We actually did try a little walleye fishing and caught…..crappies. Oh well, better than nothing.

I have an uncle who caught a nice walleye over 6lbs in the canal around Tues, I guess. Still haven’t talked to him about it…but don’t know how much he’d tell me either.

Was at Sandy Channel in the boat Friday evening trying to find some crappies; it’s amazing how clear that water is. Augustyn and I could see down about 12-13 feet, which made fishing tough. Water there was around 55, and we only managed a gill and LMB. Still good to be out on such a nice day.

Doesn’t sound to bad at all to me. I bet it isn’t long until you see some eyes. Nice thing about this time of year is it will continue to get better.

Thanks for the update, I think this will be a good week with warm temperatures and consistent south winds.

Ya, it was ok. Better than yesterday.

Consistent wind….ya, you could say that. 48 %$#@$! mph out there right now!! Yesterday wasn’t much better, but we did make it out for most of the day to the canal and Johnson, before the wind beat us down. Ended up with 7 crappies, a couple SMB and a drum. Can’t believe it was April 12th until I caught my first drum of the year. I really hate those things.
Did catch one of the crappies trolling, so they’re pretty spread out right now getting ready to spawn, I would think. We didn’t hit the shallow stuff too hard, otherwise I think we would have come out with more crappies.

Supposed to be a bit cooler this weekend I believe. At least we’re having a real spring this year and not straight into summer.

I hear you there, it was hard to stand up straight let alone fish today. I was thinking of taking today off and going, glad I didn’t. The wind is supposed to stay south through Thursday morning, I am going to try Sherman Thursday, I would guess most of the bait will be on the north side of the lake. I hope I don’t get chased off by t-storms.

Thanks! Good luck to you too if you’re able to make it up north. I know we’d be interested in knowing how Sherman treats ya.

Don’t know when I’ll make it out again, but I do know it won’t be till next week sometime. Although…there is a spot near Kearney I’ve been wanting to check out for crappies for a few years, so I might go check it out sometime this week too. Ya never know where I’ll wind up….and neither do I half the time.
