more canal fishing

Spent the past couple of days back out in the canal trying to pick up a few more fish. My buddy Jay and I didn’t have the cranks in the water 2 minutes and this real nice 5lb 7oz walleye was on. He went just a touch over 24″.

We also got another sauger in that was around 17″, along with a cat, some whites and a crappie. All fish were released.

Thursday wasn’t as good, but we managed to get about 20 crappies into the Crestliner, 2-3 whites, and we caught more catfish on cranks than anything else. I think I did have an eye/saug on a crank, as it sure looked like a walleye mouth up on top, but then the crank came loose.

I’m told that water will be cranking through the canal for quite a while this year because it’s available. I’m going to be real curious as to how that’ll change what the fish will be doing and where they’ll be doing it. I’ll most likely be out there trying to figure it out.

Thanks guys, might have to head out and try it again this week, not sure yet.

Water temp might drop just slightly I’m thinking, it’s been just beautiful down here this week. Highs around 80 at the most, a little bit of rain. We’ll see how CNPPID has been handling their water and see if I can figure out how that affects the eyes and saugers over there. I hope to put something together.
