Went out to the canal a few times this past week and was able to find a few fish. We found some July crappies, which was a fun time, but only a few of them were close to having any size to them. There are tons of gills out there right now if you know where to look.
We also did a good amount of trolling, which yielded a sauger and walleye, both around 16″, and a monster 12 1/2″ crappie that hit a wiggle wart. I just couldn’t get over that, and the thickness of the fish. Throw in the token white bass or two and the canal fishing is complete.
There was a cat tourny in the canal Saturday night, but I haven’t heard anything from that as of yet. Probably will today. I know my stepdad has been doing real well on MA cats, both channels and flats.
Irrigation season is in full swing, and there are still fish to be caught out there. Get out and enjoy it!
