canal ‘report’

My buddy Big Mike and I spent the last two nights in the canal chasing flatheads (Wed/Thur nights). Jeff from NEBRASKAland magazine was with us Wed night, and that turned out to be a lot of fun. I’m sure it would have been even more fun if the weather would have cooperated. We hit the canal first, then went to Johnson’s for some white bass action. When we finally found them and things started to really pick up, the fast-moving storms got closer and the lightning got crazier, so we decided to take off. Went back to the canal later on and had two flatheads for 10lbs and 8lbs, and a channel that went about 3-4lbs. With the canal conditions in our favor (dropping water, less current), we really thought we’d do better Thur night.

Wrong. Mike and I went out there and I stayed all night long for NO fish. I’ll be pretty po’d about this one all week long, I’m sure. The canal conditions were still pretty decent, and we had no storms last night, so I’m real surprised we got no fish. We had a few baits stolen, but no hook-ups.

Not sure where I’ll be next week, but I bet it won’t be the stupid canal.

I’ve got a couple buckets of blood on order, so maybe I’ll go catch some big channels at Elwood or Johnson. There’s a cat tourny at Johnson this Sat night, so it’ll be interesting to see how they do. It usually takes anywhere from 70-90lbs to win it.

    Hey Craiger,
Celebs? I’m sure Jeff would appreciate that! Or did you mean Mike?? ……
Ya, we had a great time, just wish it wouldn’t have stormed Wed night; I know we would have caught a lot of fish. Was going to head out tonight, but plans changed and we’re going to hit the lake tomorrow night with blood for cats. I sure hope it works.

Guiding Steve Lytle? Nah, I don’t wanna get THAT smoked in my own boat!

All you have to do is get wild on your casting! Hook his hat a time or 2 like you have me and that will keep his mind off the fishing.

Just a wait a couple months and I’ll give you a proper butt kicking in your boat. I better get my rear in gear and get that SECRET spoon mold done so we have some ready.
