Real hot in the canal this weekend with little breeze, but it sure paid off because the fishing was hot too. Quantity wasn’t on the menu, but quality sure was. We caught the 37 pounder in an area where I don’t believe I’ve ever caught a fish before. The other two went 10 and 12 1/2 pounds and both hit within 10 minutes, so it was feast and famine. My GF’s son Grayson’s side of the boat was hot as he reeled all 3 of these monsters in. Add in a few other fish, and it was a real decent day. I know the warm water temps can’t last forever, but I sure hope they last a little while. This kinda stuff is fun!

Even the 4 pounders are quite a fight, and there’s been quite a few of those this year. So not getting any under 10 lbs Saturday was a great time.

I’m very sad to report the big one died on us, but the other two were released to swim just fine. I would have much preferred the 37 to live and swim away. What a fight it was though, and it won’t soon be forgotten.

Very nice fish. I haven’t had much enthusiasm for targeting catfish but those big flatties are getting me to rethink that.

Well DB, as you know, I’m not really ‘targeting’ them, yet I am in some small way. Now you know when I do target kitties, it’s always flatheads. They are the biggest, baddest a$$ on the block, and they’re always ready to prove it. I should have taken a picture of my hand before it started healing up. Gotta love the week long reminder!
