An absolutely great day to be out fishing Saturday. Made it out to the canal and found some crappies right away. Ended up figuring out where they were in the water column and whacked about 45 of em in short order. My buddy Jeremy was beside me in his boat and I’m not sure how many he managed, but it was another large number. Picked up my buddy Chris a short while later and picked up a few more crappies, but then headed in search of saugers. The fishing wasn’t as easy as a few weeks ago, but right away Chris had a hawg sauger next to the boat that came undone. I shoulda been quicker with the net; I’m going to blame it on being in shock he hooked up so quick!

My buddy Steve met us at the location and hopped in and we all kinda struggled. I ended up with 5 saugers when Chris wanted to try a tactic that I’d tried before with no success at all. But I was game for trying again, and we started catching fish almost immediately. We didn’t fish this way long, but Chris added another sauger and I added two. It was a little more work, but sure paid off with my biggest fish so far this year, this 19″ sauger.

Hopefully the weather keeps improving and so does the fishing. It’s on now.

Nice! Sounds like a really unique fishery you have there!

It really is. You can look at it like a man-made river system that connects man-made reservoirs here and there. You can really try about any kind of fishing you want. Great fun.

Thanks! Really hoping to make it out again this week. Think I’m becoming addicted to saugs.
