Traxstech and Competitor 205 tiller, brackets or direct mount?

Anybody mount these directly to their gunnels? I’m wondering how well they fit, the appropriate amount of brackets will cost me $700 at least after the exchange rate!

I don’t see me ever removing them once they are installed anyways.

What exactly are you looking to mount? Single rod holders? Trees? Downriggers? All of these come off my boat every trip.

I can’t comment on how they will work in your boat but I will say the flexibility of tracks is a necessity for trolling. I troll Lake Superior as well as many inland lakes. Trolling for trout and salmon requires a completely different setup than walleyes and pike.

Ya the accessories will come off for travel etc. but the tracks won’t. Right now to get started we will be only be adding 4 rod holders and 2 72″ tracks. But I do plan to get the rod trees and down riggers in the future.

If I use the Alumacraft brackets it adds 500 US to the cost. Direct mount is definitely cheaper just not sure if they will fit well without the brackets.

Have you considered buying a 6″ or 12″ track and setting it in place?
Return it after you have decided it will, wont or how to go about it.
Are they available in your area?

Not a bad idea there Mark, but we don’t have any local dealers.

Just an FYI. I purchased pairs of 18” and 12” tracks. If I remember correctly, this was actually cheaper than buying only one pair of 36” tracks. I am very glad I did because I hate having to pull everything off of the track to get at one item. This is more modular and much easier to remove and move things around.

Maybe you should give traxstech a call directly to discuss your boat, application and concerns. They might be the best people to ask.

    Thanks biggill,

I haven’t done the math yet but the rails are the cheapest out of everything, those brackets are killer! Not saying they are not worth but they are costly that is for sure LOL!

With the rod tube holders, are you only supposed to use hard pulling rigs like dipsy divers and lead core etc when they are set at 90 degrees. If I’m being a honest, I’m a little worried they rod is just gonna slide right out when trolling light pulling baits on a flat line.

    Well,
I did it, ordered my Traxtech tracks Dec 23.

    2 – Black 72″ tracks,
6 – Black Mounting brackets (2 per pack)
4 – Black ratcheting rod tubes

Is it a waste to order the net holder, can you just use an empty rod tube?

The goal is to add the downrigger mounts and trees later in the year or next.

    THANK YOU SANTA! )

Only disappointing part is it looks like I’m waiting over month to get the brackets UGH!

I run a 60″ in place of my rails on my ranger and 2-18″ on the bow. plenty of room for riggers trees and a few single holders.

Never heard of anyone that wasn’t very happy with Traxstech stuff…. I bought some used here from an IDO guy – and love it. Want two more rod holders, or maybe trees sometime. You are right, expensive as heck though. The mounting tracks in particular. Enjoy them! Post photos when done.

    Well,

I finally got my tracks, they were definitely worth the wait! I’m going to add another pair of brackets, rod tree and down riggers in the summer )

What do you think about the position, I was going to move them a little more forward but the hull curves a bit so it would have been a little bit of a struggle to get the last couple brackets to hook under the gunnel. Does this position look ok for trees and down riggers?

They failed to ship the end caps but they are mailing them to me, so all is good.

You will love it. BTW, I had some issues with some of my traxstech mounts caused by a dock crash by the old owner. I sent them to traxstech for rebuild and they took care of them for only shipping cost. I was really impressed by that. After unexpected service like thats all I buy now.

Wow that’s great to hear.. These were pretty expensive for us here in Ontario, if you take into account it is at least 40% more after exchange and tax!

I am really impressed with these products and the mounts are solid! I can rock the boat and trailer and there is no flex at all!!

There are only 2 things that I think could be better, and I am picky because of what this type of stuff costs us here.

The powder coating is sparse at the end of the rails.. I thought it was dust but it’s thinner and if you look close you can see through the black.. You can only tell if you look closely though.

Also, it’s cool that the Alumacraft brackets have threaded holes on the sides as well so that the end of the bracket matches with the end of the track. I would have preferred the track screw holes be over a bit more so I could use the center holes on the bracket.

These 2 items are very nit picky and definitely not diminishing my opinion. Great products and they will get more of my money for sure! LOL!

I could have got cannon or cisco tracks here in the stores but I could not find the long track and I guarantee nobody would have the brackets for Alumacraft in stock.

Looks awesome. My only regret in my boat is not putting them more forward. Those look perfect.

That’s freaking awesome too. I’ve never had to contact them because they work perfectly. Good to know.

Troll with lead core and/or dipsey divers. That’ll solve that problem.

dipsey’s with Mag Rings! They would either holster the rods, and look like Popeye in a a few short days…..

I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a very similar boat and plan to bolt the tracks right to the gunnels by drilling through the extruded aluminum gunnel.

to_setter, you could do that for sure! I don’t think it would be to hard.

What do you guys with tracks do to protect your boat cover, when travelling?

You’ve got a great looking boat! I used to have a Lund Explorer with the extruded gunnel and Lund track system and on that boat I just bolted the track right to the gunnel. Very strong and I plan to do that same on this new boat. The track is about 1/4 inch total wider than the gunnel so the track will overlap about 1/8 inch per side, but it’s minimal and you don’t even notice it. I never had any issues with my cover of the tracks, but it looks like your’s are sticking up a bit due to being mounted on the “track system” thingy’s. Maybe consider having an extra layer sewn into your cover over the track area?

Hopefully I’ll have pictures to share in a couple weeks with my new setup.

    Thanks!

Ya, I was going to go the bolt direct route as well, but these are so darn expensive I want to take the tracks with me for the next boat. Next owner can have the brackets but the tracks and accessories will get mounted on the gunnel of our next boat )
