Traveling with motor down

How do you guys travel with a flat bottom boat, motor up or down? I assume down? Mine seems to bounce around. The transom was built up to handle a long tail mud motor. How bad is it to leave it down and just let it bounce? I could tie it down and off to one side. Not really wanting to do a transom saver. Thanks.

As long as it doesn’t fall off it will be fine.

I’d just use a fairly heavy bungie and hold it firmly down one way.

I do this. I run a bungee around mine and or a ratchet strap

Thanks. toast Securing the bounce is what I will do. I’ll strap it in the down postion with bungy. wave

I’d use a bunch over a ratchet strap. At some point someone fishing with you will overtighten the ratchet strap and cause more harm than goods the bungee will help without being too tight.

make sure you engage it into gear when its towed down so prop doesn’t spin.

Puts unnecessary miles/hours on gears in lower unit .

I have tie down eyes on my bunks and I run a rubber strap around the bottom of the motor. The rubber straps with multiple holes in them are the nicest. It leaves an extra 6″ for a handle.

    1. Doesn’t your motor have a lock for the down position?

    2. Why not a transom saver?

I put trim pin in highest position and lock motor while on the road.1986 25hp Johnson.I would think all small outboards without power tilt trim would have a similar setup,if not they should.
