Feral cats?

So what is a good trap for feral cats. Got to many running around my house. They are starting to get into my stuff. had one last year that decided my fishing tackle shelf in the garage was a good place to have kittens. Fricken garage still stinks. So after that I have no need to be nice to them. That one got the eviction notice on the end of a sledge hammer. Put a dam hole in my wall. I am to close to the cities for plinking them off with the .22 but sure would love to. Would like to find something that kills them quick and fast as my neighbor across the street feeds them like birds.

last time my wife caught a cute little kitten in my garage she brings it in the house where it scratched the kids and then pissed on my bed. She then hauls it to the local animal shop and they charge her $100 to burn it. that was a number of years ago but still a little P.O. about that to.

That only works when they are in the garage. Neighbor might get kinda pissed if she sees me running around her yard playing “whack a cat” with a sledge hammer.

Being a service plumber I have been in way to many homes where people do not take car of their cats. Rotten, friggen animals. Some are bad beyond belief. You would think they should just burn the house as the smell is never going to go away. Here is a tip. If you are in a bad cat house do not bend over to pick up a tool, look under something ect. That stench is heavy and multiplies as you get closer to the floor.

I use the Tomahawk live boxes for ADC work, but Havahart will work just fine. Dispatching method is up to you. I don’t know the laws for MN or your municipality…something you may want to check into. Skunk Syringe and Acetone!

    Dead cats tell no tails.

Looks like I might have to take a trip to fleet farm.

My old dog did one in years ago. By the time I found it late winter there was just a hind quarter left. Wife tells me that might of been someone in the neighborhoods pet cat like I should do something about it. Pretty sure I wasnt going to go knocking on doors with the hind quarter of a cat asking if it was theirs and that I may have some bad news.

New dog is to much of a wimp to do the deed. Might be feeding him to much.

Do you know why I don’t like cat people?

Because they have a big box of [censored] in their house.

To bad you can’t just shoot them. Maybe live trap then take them somewhere else.

Problem solved. Honestly the best $100 you will spend. I used to have a really hard time shooting feral cats, but my friends house/hobby farm was absolutely over run with them and trapping hardly worked. This is a pretty nice air rifle, and will do the trick at 20-30 yards in most circumstances. Beware: This is not your daddy’s Red Ryder!

Might have to get one of those. Looks like a good gun to have around for us that are just not far enough out into the country.

My buddy got a “high powered” pellet gun to rid his yard of cottontails. He was a bit surprised how loud his particular model is. I’ll see if I can get it for you.

I would call your city/county animal control and ask them if they will take problem feral animals. Some cities recognize the problem of disposing of wild and feral animals that have been captured as part of a pest removal program, so they will take care of the captured animal.

One thing that I’m glad has NOT been mentioned is posion. Don’t do it! The number of things that can go wrong are just too many. Live trap and then dispatch or bite the bullet and call in a pest control company.

If you’re going to go the live trap route, remember to place the trap such that unintended captures are minimized. My father had some issues with squirrles and racoons so he set some live traps. After the first night, he went to check the trapline and discovered Fluffy, the neighbor lady’s cat in one trap and in the other trap had live skunk in it. Yeah.

Dad wasn’t very happy about the skunk situation and all signs pointed to the fact that the skunk felt the same way. Not exactly the results he was looking for. The only thing that would have made that worthwhile was if Fluffy and the skunk would have been caught in the same trap. That would have been awesome.

Over the next week or so, he managed to catch all the neighbor’s cats and Fluffy proved to have a very short memory because he got her 3 times. Not the smartest cat on the planet, that’s Fluffy.

Anyway, the bottom line is that any unintended capture can make for an interesting cleanup effort, so make sure you get the cat and only the cat.

    Thats funny.

Yea, no poison will be used. To many dogs running around including my own. Dont know of a single one of he neighbors that has a cat. Had one neighbor with a cat but it got out and one of the other neighbors gave it to a relative that just happened to be visiting. Cat ended up with a unexpected move to the west coast. Still laugh when I hear about that.

I’ll also suggest that if your trap(s) are not inside the garage, chain them up. My parent’s have a bit of a squirrel problem, and Dad accordingly thins the herd. Long story short, a neighbor didn’t like it and stole a trap. Footprints in the snow from the trap location to the guy’s house, but he denied it, so the police did bubkiss.

Sounds like you need a new rifle (or pistol). They make great target practice. FYI, cat is Fox candy.

Just saw your “to close to cities” comment. A quiet pellet gun perhaps.
