No, an owl didn’t get him, though I’ve had that happen way too many times. When I slid the lock up the drown rod, I was a bit surprised to see him come up tail first. I get a couple each year like that. For rats on ponds, I do a lot of toilet rock sets. Take a blank area along the shore and place a rock that is large enough to stick up a few inches and for a rat to climb up on to take care of #2. Normally, they swim up the side of the rock, turn, dump, and then slide down into the deeper water. I like a double front foot catch as my goal. Sometimes they don’t follow the instructions. Kind-of like my wife says about some guys “You think they would know how to stand in FRONT of a toilet!” LOL The fur in #2 is just pushed forward from me grabbing him….forgot my gloves in the truck and that water is COLD!!
Pretty good morning on those ponds. Picked up 9 coon, 6 grinners, and 14 rats out of about 35 sets made. Saturday was only 3 coon and 9 rats. I’ll skip tomorrow then chip ice and pull out on Thurs. If we get clear ice, I’ll be back to to some ice trapping on there if I find enough dens. Today I figured out that what dens are there have deep entrances.
