Transom savers on new boats?

We just purchased a new boat with a 150 on it and am curious what transom savers everyone is using? The boat is an Alumacraft Trophy on an Eagle trailer if that helps or if anyone has the same combo.

    Thank you!

My wedge also. I’m not sure the transom needs saving as much as the hydraulics. I really don’t know though doah

I run a traditional transom saver that goes from the trailer to the lower unit. It’s never given me issues on any boat I’ve owned so I have no need to change. It takes 3 seconds to remove and one has come with every boat I’ve purchased.

This has been discussed quite a bit in past years on posts here. In my opinion, any relatively cheap transom saver or wedge is better than nothing considering what boats cost.

Browndog, what make 150? I believe that Evinrude’s have a built-in support bracket.

The built in support bracket typically just for maintenance.

You have an E-TEC? This is from one of their owners manuals.

We put a Suzuki on it. This is not our first boat and I have been around a lot of them, but i’ve got no experience with new outboards. Currently we are running the standard saver (Trailer to motor) configuration. Our current trailer plate is bolted on, and I would really like to avoid that if possible. Our new trailer has that “tough coat” stuff on it, so I feel putting holes in it would defeat the purpose of the coating.

If your trailer happens to have a rear roller on it, you could use a bracket like this one, with the “hoop” that fits over the roller.

No roller…we got a bunk trailer. I’m sure once I put eyes on it I can come up with something.

I have a bunk trailer, but it still has the center roller in back.

Hydraulic wedge based on the advice of the engineer I spoke to. A traditional transom saver works too, a wedge is just easier and smaller.

Thanks for posting this. You’d be surprised how many motors have this feature but often times get over looked.

Motor mate hands down, problem with the ones that cradle the engine and go to the rear roller, if not proper down pressure can come off and dig into the raod and damage the lower unit, also can be forgotten and not removed on the lake, I have seen where the will flip around when the boat put into forward and damage the prop.

Agree with motor mate, not much more work than a wedge except wedge just takes pressure off hydraulic not transom. I have a 175 sukuzi and found one online that u can adjust based on ur motor, no bungee cords just trim down till it’s tight

Reading the manual is apparently the key. Yamaha states that their bracket is not for trailering.

Question: should you use a transom saver for a 9.9 kicker motor? I have a 16 ft walleye boat.

If you can trailer with the motor down, and have enough road clearance, there’s no need for it.

Im a bracket from lower unit to trailer guy. 22 years on same boat and no issues.
I dont use one on my kicker since it can be placed all the way down. I just bungee it to the trailer so it wont bounce at all. The built in brackets protect the hydraulics but not your boat transom.

When I fish with friends that have that style of bracket I seem to be the guy crawling under the motors and on my knees with wet pavement. Any system that doesn’t require me getting on the ground would be preferred.

Mine is serviceable from a standing or kneeling position.

I e got the my wedge on a merc 150. Not sure it’s saving the transom but that was recommended by the dealer so I’m good with it
