Seems stable not perfect but sure controls the boat nice. it does not sit flush but I’m OK with that wanted to do a bracket in the front but it would lift it 3 inches higher then may not work as good also the bow metal is very thin not much strength. Sorry they are dark first attempt at pictures. It wiggles some but not much it seems like it will hold I did put one bolt through it. I rarely fish in lakes with stumps or something to crash into. it’s a 36 inch shaft 45# thrust sure move it fast wish it were a little slower about .90 mph on low speed 1 I have the motor head flipped. thanks just making sure it should work.

I’ve seen this done several times and people seem to get by. It won’t track true but you can adjust. Rather than clamping directly to the sheet metal under the cap as you have it I’d put a short length of 1″X 4″ on the inside of the boat under the lip of the cap and bite into that. The wood will let you get a better grip and will help avoid some of the vibration noise.

In addition run some sort of cable through the motor attaching it to the boat in case it were to come loose and fall off. Wouldn’t want to count on the battery cables to hold it.

Maybe put pieces of wood inside the channel where the clamps are holding. It will make it more rigid and secure (less apt for the clamps to work their way loose and slide off.)

1 speed reverse and the rest forward? It looks like you’d need to sit on the tip of the bow.

Sounds like the OP already has done that.

I did that years ago on an old fishing boat and it worked fine. You’ll be just fine with the exception of windy days…..you’ll need 3 arms for that.

I redid it slightly today so it sits more flush when stowed also angles straight down better. I just stand in the front and it works Great yay It was fairly windy today worked really good I almost like the hand control a little better than the foot control on my other bow mount in another boat. It seems sturdy and as someone said I’m using a bungee to hold it down and as a safety. It beats the transom mount 100%

No worries sir. I redid it a little and today it worked great a little fast but it was pretty calm out way better than the transom mount.

I’ve done it before in a small boat. Make it easier on yourself, buy some PVC that fits over the handle, cut some reliefs and clamp it down. Then have it turn 90 towards you. You don’t need to reach to the edge of the boat to steer. Push, turn right. Pull, turn left.

I did this on MANY boats in the past. Sometimes I made a special bracket, others it was not needed. I always flipped the head around to make it easier to control. I used to tell people I had a “foot” controlled trolling motor – I did – I used my FOOT -)
