Transducer Placement Question

I’ve just purchased a Helix 7 FishFinder with side imaging capabilities. The transom transducer is the XNT 9. It’s about 4” long.

I have an 1436 aluminum Jon boat that I’m putting it on. (I’m replacing the existing bullet transducer that I currently have mounted so I’ll have only 1 transducer)

I’m a little concerned that the lower unit of my outboard will interfere with the side imaging beam. PS – in the picture, The engine is at the closest of 3 tilt settings. I could change the tilt settings to give me about 5” more space between the transom and the lower unit.

Could you please suggest the best placement for my new transducer?

I’m attaching 2 pictures of the back of my boat.

I would mount the transducer where the previous one was mounted and move the pin in the outboard up one spot and try it. If it works and the side imaging view to the left isn’t blocked call it good. If it does block the view of the left side move the pin in the outboard up again until you get a clear view.

I am lucky to have power trim on my small boat with side imaging and always trim the motor up when I am using side imaging. Generally speaking you are only able to use side imaging to get a clear picture at roughly 5 mph or less so you could also just use the half tilt position when using side imaging if you don’t have power trim and not worry about where the pin is if that position work well for you boat and motor combination.
