Looking for a little help placing the transducer for my 93SV on my Alumacraft tiller. As you can see in the photos it’s a pretty simple hull with not a lot of angle. It has one of the transducer mounting plates already installed on the transom, previously had separate SI and 2D transducers installed.

I’m leaning toward placing it toward the left of the plate as Garmin calls for installation as close to the center line as possible. I’d prefer to keep the mounting plate where it is, but if someone sees a compelling reason to move the plate I’m all ears.

I know I want the bottom of the ducer parallel w/ the water and just barely submerged.

Make sure it is not inline with a row of rivets on the underside of the boat. You want a spot where the water stream will be as smooth as possible.

Ok, thanks. It’ll be easy to avoid the rows of rivets that run the length of the boat. There is one row that runs directly under the transducer mounting board pretty much the full width of the boat. Those are spaced every 1/2 inch or so, so they are not avoidable.

I’d mount it right in the middle of that board and call it good. If you do need to move it, no problem. You can sink as many holes in that board as you need.

Following up on this. Turns out that in order to get my transducer flush with the bottom of the hull, the Garmin bracket hangs over the edge of the transducer mounting plate on the top. There’s still plenty of room to screw the bracket into the plate but I’m worried about the gap on top. What would you guys use to fill in that gap and reinforce the bracket?

Doubt you need to fill gap honestly

Not trying to be a smart***. But do you really want the bottom of the transducer even with the bottom of the boat? I would think you would lose any readings over idle speed. Maybe garmin is different but could swear lowrance instructs to have the bottom half of the transducer under the bottom line of the boat. On other words, the bottom of the boat is inline with the middle of the transducer.

You’re probably right. My Garmin instructions actually don’t explain this aspect, but it sounds pretty common to shoot for the half-way line on the ducer.
