Transducer placement?

I have a 17 foot flat bottom boat with floatation pods on the back. Most people use the mud motors with this style of boat, but I run a regular outboard on mine. Works great by the way. I currently have my locater transducer as far away from the motor as possible on the transom, but I feel I’m getting some interference that I shouldn’t be getting. Does anyone have any experience with mounting a transducer to this style boat with floatation pods? I’m about to buy a helix 10 si and I’m thinking about attaching the transducer to one of the floatation pods. Does anyone have any advice?

Can we see a picture of where you have it mounted now? Is it mounted on the right or left side? Is it mounted directly to the transom or to a plate that is then mounted to the transom? My recommendation would be to mount it to the right side of the transom by using a piece of seaboard or aluminum. You can then use some screws and 3M – 5200 sealant/adhesive to mount the plate to the transom. That eliminates the floatation boxes as an issue.

So is this transducer to close to the motor? Would a HDSI transducer work in that same location, or would it work better on the end of one of the floatation pods.

Do the pods stick out past the motor? If not mounting si on them you would have to trim the motor out of the way or run two transducers. My boat has limited room on the transom which caused me to mount my si close to the motor and lower then I would of liked but I am able to get a clear image both ways.

Jeff, I see a couple issues. The transducer is currently mounted too close and on the wrong side. Transducers like clean, undisturbed water. Being on the left puts it right in the prop was with a clockwise prop spin. Mount on the far right on one of the steps.
