I was thinking about trying epoxy to attach to new mounting plates on the back of the transom (aluminum boat)instead of screws . Wondering if anyone has tried it and had luck or failure, and what brand was tried. Thanks

Transducers are too expensive for me to take the risk. My use of the epoxy or sealant is on the fender washer on the inside of the transom, never had a leak.

I do realize it sometimes unavoidable, but who in the hell pokes holes in a boat? Haha! Just ribbing you SuperDave.

Gino, I successfully did it on an older tin Sylvan I had a few years back. Don’t recall which brand, but used some sort of marine epoxy. I used a fine wire brush (like on a drill at high speed) on the transom skin to take the paint off for a good bond. My new boat has one that came installed. It has been rock solid, as well. Not sure I would take the paint off my current boat though and nor am I suggesting that to you by the way. I would imagine you’d at least have to scuff it though. Good luck either way!

Erik, what was your mounting plate made out of?

I think I’ll just screw it in. I’d rather not put holes in the boat but I agree with Dave. Thanks

3m 5200 is a great permanent sealant adhesive. Proven over the years.

I’d still screw it but then I can use less screws with the 5200.

2 Screws and 5200 fast cure.
Seal holes and a circle around each hole, seal around the board if you like.
Do it right and do it once. Buy a boat to use not make a Christmas tree out of…

Not certain, but if I recall correctly it was some sort of hard vinyl maybe? To be fair, it was small.
