While googling around for a portable style transducer mount for my little tin boat, I stumbled across this Minn Kota product, but it looks like it’s only sold in Europe and the UK:

I have an old broken Endura that I could easily transform into something similar, but my question is — would something like this work at all at speed? You wouldn’t leave your TM shaft in the water when running around at 15 mph so I question whether it really make sense? I would still want to read depth when running so need the ducer in the water. I do have a strong suction mount, I was just messing around with other ideas.

I would look up the portable transducer bracket at Cabelas. Tough to beat for $40-$50. Might cost that just to mess with your old trolling motor and then would you want to leave it down on plane? Or you could always just go the way of school way of screwing the transducer to a board and clamping to the transom with a nice c-clamp. All depends on how you plan to use and your budget.

That’ll support a transducer while on plane.

Did this for couple years on dad’s boat. Hunk of maple if I remember right. Screwed the ducer right to it, leveled it best I could to bottom of boat, clamped er off. Had a 15hp that would fly with that thing, your motor would be just fine with a board.

You need any boards I got most species in the garage. Nice hickory board with some mineral streaking would be kick butt on the back.

    Thanks fellas!

I definitely won’t be spending $40 for a transducer mount for my $40 boat. tongue

I’ve done the wood thing before. Nick, I’ll hit you up if I go that route. Just kind of thinking out lout to see what else I could do with the parts I have on hand.

You’ll want a teardrop shaped transducer for this or you’ll be one wet puppy. The puck transducers used for ice fishing flashers do not cut water like the tear drop ones and will spray water all over at the transom. The transducer does not have to be very far into the water to function so that get-up or something similar would work for you.

Why not epoxy it to the floor right at the transom/boat bottom junction and shoot it thru the hull?

Yes on the teardrop, got that covered.

This boat is going to spend a lot of time upside-down on the roof of my SUV so I can drop it in the water whenever, wherever. I want all accessories to be minimal and totally removable.
