A question on trailer tires. What are you guys running for trailer tires. I know this has been talked about before on the old site, but don’t know how to search for a topic on the new site. I have 3 year old Carlisle trailer tires, not radial on it now and they are shot. Not a big trip guy Hayward once a year and maybe one other trip over 200 miles. I have done some reading and see Goodyear Marathons have had some issues too. What are your guys go to tire?

Maxxis ST M8008 radial trailer tires, if you travel a lot at high speed.

I put Carlisle radials on my last trailer and they held up quite well. I made four trips to Crane lake and back. About 900 miles round trip every time at interstate speeds without a single problem. Not to mention the local trips plus one trip to St Cloud to trade it off. My new trailer also has Carlisle tires from the factory and it made its first trip to crane lake two week’s ago without a problem. Hope this helps.

Carlisles here too. Going on the 4th or 5th year with several long mileage round trips a year. 500-800 miles per trip, at least half of those miles at 70-75 mph up MN 35 to Canada. I always inflate about 5-7 psi over the sidewall recommendation to keep the tires cooler at higher speeds and rotate them side to side at least once if not twice a year. No complaints either. They used to have troubles with them but I think they have greatly improved over the last 10 yrs or so. Just make sure you get the right load rating and keep an eye on the psi and you should be good!

I put Carlisle radials on my trailer last summer. Did a few short trips and ran up to kab. (400 mi). this spring with no issues so far. Kab trip was hwy 53 for all but about 8 miles of the trip so mostly 70 mph running.

I used to have boat trailers with both Carlisles and Goodyear Marathons on. The Carlisles did nothing but disappoint me. They only lasted about 10 months. I couldn’t believe how fast they were worn and the Marathon’s came on both my new boat trailers. On the way home from picking the rig up, one of the tires literally blew off the rim! I’ll keep this nice! Let’s just say that I was just a TAD upset. I’ve had Loadstars on ALL my trailers ever since(almost 4 yrs. now) and NEVER had ANY problems with them. And I put on A LOT of miles on those tires in a years time, with all the fishing trips/ tourney’s I do.

Towmaster radials. Have had and seen many Carlisle come apart after 3 years of no long trips. Had a set of GY Marathons only 2 years old and tread face came off at 70 mph. Carcass was still at 49 psi. At 70 mph/long trips put 10 extra pounds in all of them. Get them balanced as many trailer tires are not balanced at the trailer factory. I also now inflate with nitrogen to run cooler. Almost all travel trailers now come inflated with nitro.
