I believe you should have a separate title for your trailer, Mike.

Correct. But like I stated if he can not find it, they were able to transfer it with bill of sale and license #. That was in my case any ways

If the trailer was never titled you can transfer the registration with a simple bill of sale in MN if you are the registered owner.
If the trailer is titled you need to get a duplicate title if you don’t have the original. If there was a loan on the original boat/motor/trailer package it would have been titled. If there was no loan then it’s 50/50 whether it’s titled. A DMV or Registrars office should be able to find out if it is titled.

Just purchased a small 14′ boat and trailer.

Went to local city hall license bureau. Woman there was an expert and walk me through the whole process … she even typed in most of the forum on her computer.

Trailer ownership is state DMV. There was a small title transfer fee. Clerk told me if lifetime license fades, etc.. can get a new sticker.

    Boat is DNR.

There are some strange rules over der in MN…….
    Boat trailer licence……weird….

I will take that over paying sales tax on a used boat/sled/camper any day.

I agree it matters where you go. Sold a trailer to my brother in law, he couldnt change the title even with receipt i gave him. I didnt have any registration card. I went to DMV in Jordan and the lady said no problem I can just type in your name and see everything registered to you. Picked a trailer and done deal.

Im going to try using detailed note first due to the short notice. I tried going to DMV this morning but wasn’t willing to wait 45 min to ask the question. If buyer has a problem I will jump in with both feet and get it taken care of. The DMV is almost always a point of frustration.

It should go without saying, but if the buyer is borrowing any money, the bank will require the title.
