When setting up for pulling boat and trailer, with new to me truck, do I want to have the trailer level or do I have the boat level as it goes down the road? Thanks

How much different are they from each other? Typically the boat and trailer should be on or close to the same plane. And they should both be close to level while traveling down the road.

Agree with this as most common configuration for most small and mid sized fishing boats.

If not level, the tongue should be no more than an inch low… never tongue to high. Also allow for the sag in the rear of the truck when hooked up.

I use drop hitch to get trailer as level as possible. A little bit high or low isn’t usually super critical.

Single or tandem axle trailer? Single axle doesn’t matter much. Level trailer is always better. Tandem axle trailers can wear the tires unevenly if the weight isn’t distributed properly.

Above posts are accurate.truck is on level ground then level trailer as previously stated.
I first used an adjustable hitch but found a lot of knocking and some movement when towing. Then went to a solid 5 inch drop for my truck and the noise and clanking movement at the hitch disappeared. Any marina,if not your dealer should look at it for free. Make a habit of this:the level, wiring, coupler, crank down jack, chains are being checked at every hook up,(Besides other stuff) I have the marina I store it at check it along with the coupler every year takes about a minute.

Thanks guys I went out and got a 3 1/4″ drop. There is a noticeable difference in the way it pulls.
