I have a trailer caster wheel problem.
The wheel is not pivoting very well.
Sometimes it just won’t pivot at all.
Is there a lubrication point that I need to work on?
    What kind of lube?

I think if you disassembled it, cleaned and lube all parts then reassemble, it would work better. Or you could buy an entire new jack and wheel at fleet farm for $30-$50 depending on exactly what you need.

I have the same thing with my Tuffy trailer. Wheel won’t swivel without kicking it. I usually just get mad and drag the thing. frown

what i have found on my old tug is that if I lower the jack putting more weight on it it will pivot with no effort. If I have it jacked up with most weight rear it won’t pivot and is difficult to move around.

Looking for a jack with the larger wheel might be an idea too. I bought a new jack a couple of years ago with the double wheels because they were supposed to roll easier. Then I discovered that the trailer manufacture had welded the OEM jack to the trailer. I just haven’t been motivated enough to get something to cut the old jack off with yet.

Mine is same as what Tomr said. crank it down and it swivels good.

have you tried wd-40,pb blaster? fluid film? spray liberally around the pivot points on the caster,at the jack, and at the caster axle.
or any spray lubricant will do really, drench the areas mentioned.

most weld on jacks at the best are tacked on,a little time with a hand held grinder will remove most welds, then weld on the new pivot plate, jack, and snap-ring,done,most weld shops around here if you cant do it at home,45 bucks out the door if you supply new jack assembly.

Lubrication, lubrication, lubrication. These are not precision bearing surfaces. The higher you lift the tongue, the less contact area you have between the inner tube and the outer tube of the jack, so it tends to bind. Jack it up all the way and clean the inner tube with solvent and a rag. Then wipe it down with a rag soaked with motor oil. If there’s a hole near the top of the outer tube, give it a squirt of motor oil. Lower the jack and it should pivot easier.

Sometimes you have to watch your tongue weight. If you don’t have the right tongue weight it makes no difference, it will still move hard. It’s just one more thing to look at. Good luck!!!
