Trailer brake issue\question

Been having trailer brake issues all summer and finally have the time to look at it before another long trip.

couple of things….brakes on the trailer do work, however in reverse they do not release. First time I checked the fuse and yes it was burnt out, replaced and then they worked fine for a while. Fast forward to most of the summer, fuses are fine, I keep checking. Reverse lights on the trailer light up however the brakes do not release.

I turned 5 pin around on the plug (read that somewhere to test) and that didn’t work either.

Is there anything else I should check or test on the trailer to help narrow the issue down? Or where I could find a wiring diagram for the trailer(I may have this at home but would like a online ver so I can take a peek at work).

    thanks in adv.

IF the reverse lights are coming on, on the trailer than you are getting power where you need to. If you are truly getting power there about the only other thing it could be would be the solenoid in the actuator is not working correctly or at all.

The blue wire is the wire that will control the reverse lights and also the solenoid for allowing you to back up.

Do you have a release button under the tongue or just back from under the tongue. My trailer has a brake release there.

That will for sure cause the issue. If it wasn’t ever plugged in you would have never been able to back up unless you were backing up down hill every time.

Well it’s always been short trips so I just locked the surge out.

Gotcha, Hopefully that should take care of the issue for you.
