Looking at taking a day to ride with the Mrs. in the Spooner/Trego area and have never really rode outside of my own property. Anyone recommend a good itinerary as far as:

    Trail to take?
Good staging area to park a truck/trailer and start from?
    Other?

    Thanks in advance

The trail maps online do not do any justice to the available trails in that area. When I ride that area, I park at a friends cabin just outside of Minong. I wish I could tell you exactly which trails to hit, I cannot remember the names.

The trail are good, but if you are just looking for a day trip area, I would suggest Nemadji state forest in MN (NE of Hinkley). Lots of different trails and some really fun Class I trails if you are riding an ATV. Another fun place is Clark and Jackson county WI (Black River Falls area). We are actually headed there next weekend and hope to put on 300 miles or so in 2 days!

I’m sure Suzuki will chime in, I know he rides that area quite a bit.

Don’t know that area for trails but since you just ride on your property be sure you have up to date license and tabs for the ATV.

Sorry. I just saw this. Not much traffic in this forum so I forget to look at it.
There is a parking lot for wheelers right in Trego. Has bathrooms as well. Turn right at the Prime Bar off 53/63 then left before the RR tracks. About a block in.
You can ride for very long distances on that trail alone with off shoots shown on the local trail maps. That corridor trail is called the Wild River Trail. With the right knowledge you can go anywhere in the region between gravel and approved paved roads but its difficult to know the paved back roads open to running without experience. You will see green signs where allowed.

Here’s the trail website with map. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/wildrivers/

I ran up there all last week. Since we have a place there we tend to try and hit the trails while wet but in reality we usually hit them dry and dusty. No biggee if you spread out. South of Trego by the train museum lots of large sharp rocks from the tracks were spread on the trail. I dont why they did it and I would like to see them clear them off but they probably wont. You want to drive slow there in order to avoid a flat. Trust me on this one. Lots of people have learned the hard way including me.

Get the Polaris Ride Command app. Its free and has most of the trails/routes available in Nothern WI. It can track your ride and gives you GPS location as well. Pretty sweet in my opinion.

It can also allow you to make group rides, so everyone in your group(so long as there is cell reception and the app) can be seen on the map.

    It’s a very useful tool.

I can also recommend the ride command app. Comes in handy on many trails in the Trego area. It also shows most of the trails in the Mercer/Hurley area that are not exactly well marked.

We did Jackson county last weekend and the ride command app didn’t really represent the available trails down there. Plus all 3 Polaris machines broke down on the trail from belts to hubs to complete engine failure. Honda, Kawasaki and Can-Am machines made it out unscathed.
