Something I forgot to mention earlier: Having a Class A driver’s license (or even B) opens even more doors in the construction industry.

A lot of construction jobs are multifaceted. Having the ability and qualifications to drive are a huge plus. It’s obviously a nice fall-back option too (full time truck driving).

Every field employee at our company is required to have a commercial driver’s license (but most places don’t, so don’t fret).

For the record, I’m talking about REAL construction with REAL trucks, not some scab home remodeler with a rusty ladder rack on an S-10.

Guys seriously thanks for all the input. The reason I want to go with carpentry goes deeper than starting a career. Growing up I would help my grandpa do side jobs (I was too young to really help so it was get the hammer, need more nails etc.) but whether it was hanging dry wall, framing a room or knocking down walls for a bigger room, siding, even spraying the ceiling texture or pop corn. He wasn’t even a carpenter by trade he drove a dump/plow truck. That was just life skills people had back in the day. I like the fact once you get the hang of it understanding your cuts/angles ways to fasten making sure things are square the windows of opportunity with just being crafty like EPG’s smitty sled he built with what i’m assuming was just scrap wood he had laying around. It’s a skill I want I like building things I like using my hands and having to think about it.
