Toys & Games for little kids in the permanent icehouse / iceshack?

So I’ve got an overnight trip fishing with my kids in a permanent icehouse (Ice Castle) and need toy & game ideas for them. They are almost 3 and 5 years old. I’m sure that toys like Legos would be bad and although we will have clear hole covers kids drop things. Will try to play outside a bit when it’s light out but they get cold quick.

Wondering what toys & games might be good for 2 kids this age?

I have my son pack some toys in his backpack. He also likes to play card games so we do that sometimes if it’s slow. Does it have a tv? I got plenty of kids movies to keep him entertained. If it’s nice out he likes to play outside with a shovel and makes forts and keeps himself busy. Sometimes we take one of our dogs and that keeps him busy also. If it’s only one night it will go fast.

The other day I brought up a underwater camera would be cool and he has been talking about that a lot now. So now I may have to end up looking for a camera for him to play with ha

My son will watch the camera for hours. Other then that he can bring a few toys of his choice. He will 100 percent bring a hand full of hot wheels and Legos.

Need to be careful of how cold the floor can be in those. No matter what toys they end up with if they are on the floor bring some foam mats or blankets to help insulate where needed. When we get to fishing sitting up probably doing this doing that we forget the kids are almost in a different climate being so low to the ground. Sick kids couple days later doesn’t help a thing.

Plastic water bottles, pin hole in the lid. Add food coloring and do snow painting.

Ice golf, shovel a course and drill shallow hole.

Our kids love to play hunting with those hunting toy packages sold for kids (with the animals, hunters, trucks, atv’s, treestands, etc)

Far more plastic animals die than real fish that are really caught in the shack jester

Whatever your kids enjoy at home they will enjoy in the shack.

I say let them decide what toys they want. Within reason. Try to sway them away from the loud ones however.

Let them pick some toys. Preferably something that floats. Every time we go out I hear about his favorite hot wheel that sunk down the hole. Card games and uno have been popular with my family.

Thanks guys, maybe I’ll take them to the store and let them each pick a new set of cheap toys.

Any hot wheel reefs forming on the lakes you fish ?

    Assume legos float.

I keep a kite in my shack for nice afternoons. I also bought a model rocket kit (and extra engines) for $60, they help to build, launch and chase.

When I first started bringing my kids ice fishing … no toys. Kept the trips about 2 – 3 hours total with maybe 1 – 2 hours on the ice. Pannies and hoping bite was good.

Walked out, walked back or they rode in sled pulled by my wife.

As they got to about elementary school age would either pick a warm day or use a temporary shack … same thing … fished 1 – 2 hours top (well maybe longer if the bite was steady). Let them roam around but tried to get them from getting too loud.

To be honest I mostly stopped ice fishing when I had three younger kids … all playing sports, etc… My priorities were hunting, hunting, hunting, summer fishing, and then ice fishing. Sports take their toll, especially hockey. Some really warm winters that decade and January is the peak month for games and tournaments. Once in HS / college and/or out of the house … all the time in the world. Any are always welcome to come along but they do not often impede my return to the ice.
