The newer motor for the Tahoe is the lt 5.3 and 6.2. They have no similarities to the older models. Look for a 2015 and newer to get the lt engine. The lt has a lot more torque throughout the rpm range then earlier models. I have a 2018 Chevy with 5.3 and tow a Deep v glass boat. You can go as fast as you want. Transmission rarely shifts. Substantially better in every way to my 2011 Chevy. 2 to 4 mpg better towing or empty than my 2011 Chevy.

You’ll be fine with the Chevy V8. That’s a similar powertrain as a 1/2 ton Chevy Silverado. The springs in back are likely a bit lighter, and the wheelbase is smaller, so it might sag two inches in the back, whereas a truck would not.

Why not ask the mechanics at a certified GMC service dealership? There’s hardly a question you can ask they haven’t heard before or won’t know the answer to.

Axle ratio plays into effect also. The newer trucks(1/2 ton)with a 6 or more speed trans, the 3:42 ratio is fine, but it sucked with the older 4-speed.3:73 would have been better. The 5.3 makes it’s power at higher RPMs vs the previous 350.
