Anyone fishing the RCL League Tournament at Big Stone on May 15th? I am looking to share accommodations with someone, I have a pop up camper but I am afraid it might be a tad bit cool for camping? If you are interested you can reply here or send me a PM or e-mail.

I don’t know where I am staying yet. I’ll look for the cheapest dive in town. Let me know where you guys are staying.

I like the Vali-Vu or the Sunrise. (I have stayed at both) First two hotels as you come into town. Vali-Vu on the left, Sunrise on the right across the street. Both walking distance to the Matador Supper club! And another breakfast place. (Can’t remember the name)

Both of these places have spots to plug chargers into. Not fancy, somewhere to sleep and fisherman friendly.

Thanks for the link Don, here is the cheapest place I could find.
    Big Stone Motel
    650 Main Street
    Highway 12
    Big Stone City, SD 57216
    Phone: 605/862-8118
    Becky and John Madison, Owners

A single is $23 a night and a double is $32 a night. I booked a double, it also has a fridge and a micro wave with two double beds, not sure if we want to cram three guys in one room…. What do you guys think? Oh yea I almost forgot I snore loudly according to my wife If you think that would bother you, you guys could take the double room and I could get a single.

The next cheapest place was Econo Lodge for $69 a night.

    Thanks Jon,

I just checked with the Vali-Vu & the Sunrise, they both have a room with 3 double beds for $48 a night, what do you guys think?

I just wanted to let you know about the city campground in Ortonville. It is first come first serve. The only downfall is there is only one place for electricity that is shared between two sites. Other wise it is a great place to stay. and cheep, I think it is about $10.00 a night.

I am going to be there for the RCL and I have reservations at the Sunrise, I called the Big Stone motel and just didn’t get that great a feeling about it…I think for the room I have at Sunrise it is $40 and that has 2 doubles I think.
If anyone is interested I can call and see about getting a bigger room, the weekend before the RCL I am staying at Sunrise as well and it is only $48 per night for a room with 4 beds. They also have plenty of parking and power for the boats. Oh yeah….and they have a steak place and liquor store right across the street so if I put up a zero on Sat I can drown my sorrows. OR celebrate a good performance.

Shoot me a PM if anyone is interested in splitting costs…so far it is just me and another guy but I can certainly call and see if they have a bigger room available.

OK I made the reservation at the Sunrise, the room has three beds.
Buckshot thanks for the offer, but seeing as you have two guys and we have three I think 5 would have been a little crowded in one room.
So Lenny and Niteeye are you guys boaters or co-anglers?

From my house here in St Paul it’s a 4 hour drive. That’s non-rush hour time pulling a boat doing just a little over the speed limit when safe.

If I ever left at rush hour from the east side of St Paul, I’d add up to 2 hours to that time.

I have stayed at the Big Stone Motel. It is very creepy, but the price is right. It is on the SoDak side.

    Steve,
I am a co-angler. I am fishing all the dates for the RCL/Minnesota league. Thanks for making the reservation.
I was wondering if anyone would have room in their boat for me on Sunday morning after the tournament? I would like to fish until noon or so.It would save me hauling mine.I would chip in for gas!

I don’t know what it was but I got an odd feeling when I talked to the guy at teh Big Stone Motel that it just wasn’t the kind of place I would want to stay. The guy at the Sunrise though was very friendly and made sure I knew where they were located and that they had food and beverages close enough to walk to and that there was a bait shop just a couple blocks away.
I am really looking forward to the tourney, should be a great time.
