Tournament schedules are out or will be very soon. What circuit or circuits are you fishing this year? Including any independent tournys.

The MTT circuit looks good. Would like to fish 5 + a 2-day event and earn enough points for the Champ on Lake of the Woods. Late Sept on LOW can be a great bite!

I wil be fishing the MTT this year. I tried out a couple of their tourneys last year and really enjoyed the setup. I’m sure I will squeeze in a few locals in my spare time.

Do you know which ones you plan on entering yet? If we fish the same ones we’ll have to hook up for some beverages at the meeting.

I plan to fish the WI RCL League and as many “local” tourneys as my schedule will allow.

I am 15 years old and want to fish in walleye tournaments when i get older. Is there anything any of you would recommend doing to prepare myself for tournament fishing?

First of all welcome to the site.
The best advice I can give is to learn everything you can about fishing for walleyes. Always be willing to listen to anybody who has something to say about fishing and read every aryticle you can find about walleyes, structure, boats, tackle, current, wind, different bodies of water. The more knowledge you have the better equipped you are to make the best decisions when you are in a tourney situation. The more versitle fisherman you are the more consistent you will be when you are fishing different bodies of water under many different conditions.
You took a great step in the right direction when you found this website. There are many knowledgable fishermen browsing this site at any given time and a lot can be learned from them. If you have any questions at all just put up a post and it will be answered. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Tony,
It is great to see someone your age wanting to prepare themselves for tournament angling. Check to see if there is a fishing club in your area. They would be happy to help you gain experience through club tournaments.
The next step you may consider is to fish as a co-angler in a RCL league events. This would give you the opportunity to learn various methods from tournament anglers, while fishing in their boat.
Next you may consider fishing as a co-angler in a PWT or RCL event. Fishing a season or two with some of the best anglers in the world is a great way to learn.
Good luck and have fun. Don

There are a few things that you can learn in school that can really help you out down the line.

Learn everything you can about starting and running your own business. Being a pro-fisherman is much like running a small business. You will need to know how to track profits and expenses. Report and pay taxes on winnings – in a good year – or losses in a bad year. So business 101 would be a good class.

Sales and Marketing. Many pro fishermen are excellent at marketing themselves and the products that they use. Many sponsors will look closely at your ability to market their products. The money that many successful pro fishermen make not only comes from winnings, but also sales.

Public Speaking. Many of the top pros out there today are excellent speakers. They have the ability to speak in front of an audience such as sports shows and seminars. Being a good public speaker ties in closely with sales and marketing.

Great info from Mr. Jordan,Hansen, and Sir Gator Hunter .
I have a few to add for you also.Always try to be in good spirits even when you don’t weigh fish.If you do weigh fish have something nice to wear on stage.Keep your boat looking nice and clean. These are all things that sponsors look for in fishermen. They do not want to sponsor a guy or gal that is always dirty looking and with a frown on all the time.Try to spend as much time on the water as you can.Try to learn techniques that you are not very good at.You have to be very versatile to fish any state or national circuit.Don’t be afraid to ask questions, there are alot of great angles on this site.Let us know where your located and maybe you could get out with a few of these guys and learn a little from them.Best of luck and hope to see your name on some leader boards in the future.

We have not nailed anything down yet, but Hook and I will probably fish the MTT’s on Mille Lacs along with the Hunters Point, and Wave Wacker Tourny.

We’re practically neighbors. I grew up in Goodhue (god’s country). It’s a small world I guess.

    Tony,

Check out Walleye Searchers club out of Rochester. It’s really inexpensive to join, and you get to fish a tourney every month from April to November. I believe the website is: http://www.walleyesearchers.com

Lots of good advice above. One thing you’ll discover as you get older, there are always people willing to share info. It may be good info, some not so good. One thing I’ve learned here, it’s all pretty darned good. Keep reading and practicing the techniques you read about. My biggest downfall is falling in a rut or staying in my comfort zone. As we get older, we seem to get set in our ways. Keep and open mind and you’ll do just great. Ask lots of questions. Good luck buddy!!
