Don’t know but they usually go two years in a row at each place. I would look for a lake in 2004 is my guess. Thanks, Bill

Rumor is it they don’t want to have it on a lake. Reason being that they don’t want to have a day cancelled because of wind. Last I heard through the grapevine that it WILL be held in MOLINE. Pool 15.

Having it in October on Devils Lake would get several fisherman killed by duck hunters.

Also you couldn’t book a hotel room at that time of year. You need to book a year in advance.

Now I know several of you could plan on it but….

Well it looks like the RCL 2004 Championship will be held in Moline Illinois on Sept.29 thru. Oct.2. That would be pool 15. Just thought I would let you know. For those who are going to fish this tourny, your best bet would be to fish 14 or 16. I fish them both.

I recall a lot of discussion a couple years ago concerning an RCL event scheduled out of Moline that was cancelled. It will be great to host the championship in my back yard! Not much water to fish in pool 15, but like Tony says, 14 and 16 are much better bets. It might be a good opportunity to wet our feet on the big time tourney scene Tony.

I heard that on the news last night rooster, prety cool for us hey,I wonder though where they would have enough room for a event of that size on the moline riverfront, they held that B.A.S.S. tournament a couple years ago at sunset in rock Island

I would be curious to know what pools they are allowing to fish. When the tournament was in Red Wing it was just pool 3 and pool 4. I wonder if they will allow us to go a pool up or down from pool 15.

Well let me put it to you this way, I hope they let you guys go up or down one. Pool 15 is not known for its walleye or sauger population. I only know of a coulpe of spots on 15 that produce any eyes.

Most of the regulation changes affect anglers fishing on the Mississippi River. Walleyes measuring from 20 inches to 27 inches caught from Pools 12 through 20 must be immediately released alive. Anglers may keep one walleye per day longer than 27 inches from those pools. This will be in effect starting Jan.14th 2004. I got this info. from the Iowa DNR site.

I have not heard if Illinois is going to recognize this slot. I would hope that they do.

Jarred: Like River Rat said pool 15 isn’t a walleye hot spot and I would think they would want a good showing ,also when they have held other major tournaments here they let them go up or down a pool, do you know when the 2004 schedule for RCL comes out?

I contacted the Illinois DNR by email, the reply I recieved on 12/22 stated that these regs are “just a proposal” at this time. I am not sure if they were talking about the slot limit or the closed season below dams 12-14. I asked about both. They sent me a link which I will add here. I took a quick look at it, but the link is to all site specific regs and proposals in Illinois I believe. Have not had time to wade through it all yet. I will a local DNR official after Christmas to get more up to date info.

I am also very excited about the Championship being held right here. Great chance for many local anglers!

I found the proposals in the link which affect pool 14. (below lock and dam 13) Here is what I could find. I believe the slot limit will be for the entire Il/Ia boundry water. Will post more as I get the info.

” Walleye – 15″ Minimum Length Limit with a 20″-27″ Protected Slot Length Limit (24)

Walleye and Sauger (14) – 6 Fish Daily Creel Limit with no more than 1 walleye greater than 27″ in total length (24)”

“Tailwaters of Lock and Dam 12 (down to Mill Creek, an Iowa tributary located at River Mile 556.0) and Tailwaters of Lock and Dam 13 (down to the downstream end of Stamp Island, River Mile 521.5) closed to all fishing from December 1 through March 15)”
