If you are a Tournament Angler you should be aware of what the DNR and
some Lake Assocations are trying to do to eliminate tournament fishing.
Please read the following email string and check it out for yourselves at
http://www.lakesylvia.com. If you are a Tournament Angler you should try to
attend the the public forum on September 13th (this saturday) at 11:00.
“There is more weight in numbers and we, tournament anglers, should be
    heard.”

This is potentially a huge problem. The DNR has apparently already sided
with the Lake Association and has provided them with the necessary
information to push this through. If you go to the Lake Association
website which is http://www.lakesylvia.com, you’ll notice there are a number of
Fishing Regulation links listed on the right hand side in the middle of
the page called the Bass Toolbox, Walleye Toolbox, etc. This propaganda
has been sent out, it’s been discussed in detail, and I’m certain has been
reviewed multiple times by those in the association that are diligently
working to see this through. No more fishing on Sylvia//Twin!

I’d ask that everyone read these carefully. Every question and potential
argument I could come up with to counter this proposal has already been
addressed by the DNR. These are DNR documents that have been provided by
Fisheries to the Lake Association. My first response was that our feet
have been yanked out right from under us and the public has no say in this
matter. But it’s very important we respond with some solid arguments.
Unfortunately right now I have none, but everyone you can think of should
be made aware of this and we all need to put an effort together to resolve
this for the public good. In response, word your emails thoughtfully and
carefully. Plan your counter arguments and be prepared with facts.
Anything less will be catastrophic. If you come up with some good
counterpoints please share them so all our voices can be heard.

We’ve still got some time to work on this, but everyone needs to get
    involved in a hurry.

    Thanks

Anglers take note. It is time to step up to the plate for our rights on
fishing. Please respond to this by coming to the meeting or at least
    writing an email to Paul.

I am a resident of Annandale and a
bass tournament and league angler. I am contacting you because you
currently, or in the past have organized tournaments or leagues on Lake
Sylvia, We need your help! The DNR just announced that there are proposed
    special
regulations for the lake starting in 2009. These regulations would be in
place for 10 years. The regulations are as follows.

Bass slot limit 12″ to 20″ inches must be released. One over 20″ is allowed.

    Sunfish and crappie limit 5

Northern 24 to 36″ must be released One over 36″ is allowed

    Walleye 17″ minimum

These recommendation came from the lake association not the DNR! The
association has been trying everything possible to keep the tournaments
and leagues off of “there” lake. If this passes they will be successful
and it is only a matter of time before other lake associations try the
same thing. The frustration is that this is not based on scientific data.
It is based on greed. As you are well aware very few anglers keep bass.
Lake Sylvia has a forge and habitat problem not over harvesting of bass. I
spoke with a person from the fisheries department and he did age testing
on bass from Sylvia this spring and said that 10″ bass were 6 years old.
The goal of this regulation is to keep anglers off of “there” lake. There
will be a public forum on this issue Sept. 13 at 11:00 at the South Side
Township hall. If you cannot attend I urge you to call, write or e-mail to
the following address. I was told that this would be decided
democratically so every contact counts. There are far more sportsman in
the state than lake association members. It is time that they hear our
    voice.
