A heck of a Hot MWC Championship Banquet!!

What a way to end the MWC Championship! All the participants were at the banquet Saturday evening receiving our rewards in a beautiful upstairs room of the Barn in Prairie Du Chein, enjoying a beautiful (but awefully large) fire in the stone fire place. Pretty soon it got real smokey and then we had to move downstairs because we could not stand it any more. Then, it got smokier downstairs. Then we were told to get the heck out because the place was on fire! As we walked out the door……..flames were shooting out of the side of the building. Needless to say, we finished the award ceremony in front of fire trucks in the parking lot. Thank God all got out safely. It was a heck of an experience.

By the way! Without that Red Wing and Winona crew leading the way in getting all the people out safely, who knows what would have happened!!

ok who was supposed to bring the hotdog and marshmellows. just kidding, good to hear that no one was injured, and you also got to see some of the finest, hardworking individuals that came to put the fire out.

    thanks

Not sure how much damage was done to the Barn, but they sure pumped a lot of water into the place so I would assume pretty extensive. I also heard that the fire flared up again early the next morning, but I am not sure how bad. As we were leaving, an ambulance was making its way to the Barn as I guess a fireman was possibly having a heart attack putting the fire out. Hopefully he is OK.

    Wow!

I always thought the term “barn-burner” was a southern term for a great party.

Again…maybe a few too many beers one night . All kidding aside, congrats on the baby. Could put a damper on boat time but Im sure it’ll be worth it.

I work at the Barn for bigger events and weddings and worked at the banquet that night. As the night went on the loft did get VERY smokey. I kept telling everyone that something wasn’t right and had the manager call the owner. He thought it was just not getting a good draft. I even went outside to see if smoke was going up the chimney and it seemed to be. After we sent everyone down stairs I put the fire out in the fireplace and the smoke was getting really bad. I went outside again and flames were shooting out of the wood that covers the chimney! We ran back in and told everyone to get out and called the fire dept. Then we ran a hose out there and I played junior fireman to the cheers of the walleye guys . It was an interesting night to say the least. The fireman is ok, just felt faint. Luckily we caught it before there was major damage and most of the water went into the fireplace well in the lower level. They were open that week and I worked last weekend. I felt terrible for how hot it got at the banquet and for them having to go outside. I hope you all enjoyed your stay a PdC. It sure sounded like a tough overall bite that week.

You did a heck of a job manhandling that fire hose! Luckily the Barn had one available as I could have seen that place go up quite fast by the time a fire department got there. You guys did a fantastic job on the meal for us and the setting was perfect. Nobody could have forseen what was going to happen with the fire. I only hope, and I am sure we will, have the banquet there next year. Thanks again for everything!

PS: We are happy to hear that the fireman that had to go to the hospital was nothing serious
