In-depthangling Media Staffer Steve Plantz was on the scene in the Media section at the weigh in and will have alot better pics coming soon. I was way in the back as it was packed with people. Thanks, Bill

It was tough way in the back and didn’t have paper and pen and had a bag [bought some goodies] with me. But I knew we had a Media Staffer there so I just took some random pics and thought I’d post them. If you haven’t been to a RCL weigh in before you must go. Really neat with all the flashing lights, loud music and sound and stage and three huge fishing boats on each side of the stage. They even show on a big screen tape of each of the final 6 anglers catching fish. Great show!!! Thanks, Bill

I have to Ditto if you haven’t been to one of these events it is really something to see live..
The big TV screen takes you out to the fisherman,..it is really cool.

I could be wrong, { and I hope I am} But my guess is that since the weigh-in was done at Wal Mart, the fish were destroyed. Unless maybe they received a special permit from the DNR.

My wife and 4 year old grandson just happened to be shopping at Walmart at noon on Saturday when he spotted the boats in the parking lot and wanted to go see them. He is a fishing nut as his favorite reading materials are my old Cabela’s catalogs and In-Fishemen magazines. He had the time of his life with the velcro game and the air bags. But the real thrill for him was catching a couple of trout from the pond. At noon there weren’t many people there yet so he got special attention. My wife called me at 2:30 and said you should come down here and see this so I quit raking leaves and came. When I got there the little one was so excited he couldn’t spit the words out fast enough to tell me what they had done and seen. My personal ARM project (no dad) didn’t get much sleep last night as he was reading the magazines he got there and telling his Mom about the day.

I recognized some fellow members of this forum by their pictures or names on their shirts but didn’t introduce myself as I’m kind of shy and everyone was busy.

I guess the message with this long winded note is that it is a great free show with good people running it. Come early and bring the kids.

Originally they were issued a “kill” permit for days 3 & 4 of the RCL Championship. The FLW couldn’t understand why this had to be a kill tournament. Since the DNR rules state that if the weigh in is off site the fish must be killed they were issued a kill permit. However, after the BFL tournament in Red Wing is sounds like this all got straightened out and they were allowed to release the fish back in Red Wing or Treasure Island.

The FLW’s arguement was why should we kill all the fish when most if not all would survive, and they did. It sounds like the DNR is now taking a look at that mandatory kill rule. My guess is it will not be around next year.
