Do any of you look at your upcoming tournament season and give yourself a plan or goal to shoot for?

    How many 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, ect…

How many times in the money?

Break even with entry fees, double fees?

Now you have to be realistic and not say that you are going to win every tournament, even though that is what you are trying to shoot for.

I have been writing my goals down before the start of every tournament season for the past 4 years and it is intresting to see how it all works out. Half way through the year some times you say, wow I am doing pretty good, others you say, I need to get my in gear.

Try it this year and see how you do.

At the beginning of a year tournament wise we usually only have 1 goal. Qualifying for whatever championship the Series we are fishing has to offer(FISHING FOR POINTS).
To be perfectly honest we also ask how easy/how cheap/ for what returns in National championship.
In one 3 day National Championship we have made more profit than earned in a whole year of guiding and tournament winnings combined. I’m a poor boy with a bad back so to me most of it is about the money…. otherwise I have to fish less OR NOT AT ALL the next year. AS A TINY LITTLE SIDE BENEFIT I GET TO DO SOMETHING I ENJOY MORE THAN….. WELL MAYBE SECOND TO ……..THAT

    Jason,

My first goal for any tourney is to fill the box with 4 legals and then start to move up from there. after that, then I want to set the goal into getting the biggest bag I can and possibly the big bass $$$ as well. I just don’t go and set my goals to which place I want. I change my goals as my day on the water progresses.

    Shane-

I was not asking for a goal for each tournament, you should always shoot for the biggest bag and the win every tournament.

I was talking about by the end of the year, what do you honestly want to accomplish? one 1st, one 4th, third overall in league (example)

Tne biggest thisn is to be realistic and not say that you are going to place first in every tournament.

    Jason,

Looking back over my last year fishing club level tourneys. I would have to say that this years goal is going to be this:

I want to have one 1st place and finish in the top 3 two times. overall, I want to be in the top 3 finishers in points.

Last year I was 6th, so I want to break into the top 3. I think I have a decent chance at it, seeing how the first 3 tourney are northern lakes that I have fished a few times.

I also want to be in the top 5 in your tourney as well. I need some good prizes.
