    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ANGLERS GEAR UP FOR $88,000 WAL-MART RCL WALLEYE LEAGUE FINALS

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (Aug. 8, 2003) – Iowa’s Lake Okoboji will host the nation’s top weekend walleye anglers Sept. 6-7 for the inaugural Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League Finals, the $88,000 championship event of the new Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League. The winning boater will take home a fully rigged Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat powered by an Evinrude or Yamaha outboard, with a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat and trailer also going to the second-place boater and the winning co-angler.
The top 25 boaters and 25 co-anglers in year-end points standings from each of the RCL League’s four divisions – Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin – are eligible for the no-entry-fee finals. The entire field will compete for one day to determine the top 15 boaters and co-anglers who will advance to day two, with the winner determined by the heaviest two-day weight.
Anglers will take off Saturday from Arnolds Park State Pier in Arnolds Park at 7 a.m., and Saturday’s weigh-in will also be held there beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday’s takeoff will be at 7 a.m. from the Highway Nine Access Area in Spirit Lake, and Sunday’s weigh-in will be held at the Wal-Mart store located at 2200 17th St. in Spirit Lake beginning at 3 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend daily takeoffs and weigh-ins.
Each RCL League division featured two one-day qualifying tournaments and one two-day Super Tournament, with qualifying events paying out as much as $20,530 and Super Tournaments awarding as much as $25,985. Every angler who received weight credit in a tournament earned points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 points for second, and so on, except for Super Tournaments, which awarded 300 points to the winner, 298 to second, and so on. These points determined angler standings.
In Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League competition, boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired and fish together for a combined boat weight, with boaters competing against other boaters and co-anglers competing against other co-anglers.
The success of the $3.07 million Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Tour, featuring the world’s best walleye anglers and most lucrative payouts, resulted in high demand for weekend walleye tournaments designed for working anglers. Thus began the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League, which is administered by FLW Outdoors, the world’s leading marketer of competitive fishing. Other FLW Outdoors-sanctioned tournament trails include the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, the world’s most lucrative bass-fishing series; the EverStart Series, designed as a pathway to the FLW Tour; the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League for weekend anglers; and the Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail.
Wal-Mart and many of America’s most respected companies support FLW Outdoors and its six tournament trails. Wal-Mart has been the title sponsor of FLW Outdoors since 1997.
