There’s a lot at stake for the top teams on the Wisconsin Circuit of the
Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) as they prepare for the final qualifier at
Castle Rock Flowage, on Sunday, July 27.
At stake is the Mercury Team of the Year title. After three qualifiers,
one point separates the top two teams. Leading the way is the team of
Clifford Jakusz from Stevens Point and Brand Jakusz from Plover with 12
points. One point behind is the team of John Bella from Stevens Point and
Joseph Besieda from Wisconsin Rapids.
Also at stake is the chance at qualifying for the Wisconsin State
Walleye Championships August 9-10 at Lake Wisconsin.
According to GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer, contains all
sorts of drama. “The Wisconsin Circuit has been a very competitive one, and
I look for great competition at the Castle Rock Flowage qualifier. The
Mercury Team of the Year is up for grabs, and I know this last qualifier is
do or die for teams hoping to make the Wisconsin State Championships. “
Competing teams should be at Castle Rock County Park, which is
approximately eight miles northeast of Mauston between 6-6:30 Sunday morning
to sign in and participate in mandatory boat inspections. Late entries will
also be taken care of during that time.
The tournament hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with awards to follow. The
weigh-in is open to the general public.
Barringer said, “I encourage people to come to the weigh-in. They should
be at the weigh-in site by 2:45. This will be a chance to not only see who
gets team of the year, but to also find out what presentations worked during
the tournament.”
Interested anglers can also call 1-800-890-3474 or email the GNWC at
