South Dakota Circuit of GNWC Heads to Missouri River at Mobridge

    By Steve Weisman
    GNWC Publicity Director
The tight race for the Mercury Team of the Year on the South Dakota
Circuit of the Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) will be decided on the
Missouri River at Mobridge on Sunday, July 20. Also on the line will be a
berth in the South Dakota State Championships on Richmond Lake, August
    23-24.
According to GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer, the South Dakota
circuit has had an incredible run. “The bite at the three previous
qualifiers has been great, and I look for Mobridge to be the same. The
Missouri River is an exciting place to fish. What a great place to have our
    fourth qualifier.”
Currently, the team of Darron Peterson from Humboldt and Dale Peterson
from Sioux Falls have the lead for the Mercury Team of the Year with 13
points. In second place is the team of Scott Kaufmann from Spencer and Todd
Weisz from Parkston with 15 points, while Lee Pulse from Kimball and Scott
Handel from Chamberlain are in third place with 16 points.
“There is definitely a lot at stake for these teams. I’ve been really
happy with the South Dakota circuit. It just continues to gain momentum as
people learn more about the benefits of fishing the GNWC,” said Barringer.
According to Barringer, competing teams should be at the Indian Creek
Recreation Area between 6-6:30 Sunday morning to sign in and participate in
mandatory boat inspections. “If there are some teams who decide to enter at
the last minute, teams can still sign up on Sunday morning. Just show up at
the park, and we’ll take care of the paperwork.”
    The tournament hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weigh-in begins precisely at 3
p.m., with awards to follow. “We certainly invite people to come and watch
the weigh-in. It will be exciting to see the weights that come in, and it
will also be a chance for the crowd to find out what techniques worked to
    bring in fish,” added Barringer.
