Will it be three in a row on the Minnesota Circuit of the Grand National
Walleye Cup (GNWC)? The team of Chad Benson and Joe Edlund has won the first
two qualifiers, but can they duplicate the first two wins on their “home
waters?”
We’ll know the answer after the third qualifier at Cass Lake on Sunday,
June 22.
GNWC Executive Director shared the anticipation for the Cass Lake
tournament. “This should be an outstanding tournament. The competition will
be good with more teams continuing to join our Minnesota GNWC Circuit. Cass
Lake is also an awesome walleye fishery. Plus, the Benson and Edlund story
is a great one.”
According to Barringer, competing teams should be at the Highway 2 Rest
Area on the south side of the lake between 6-6:30 Sunday morning to sign in
and participate in mandatory boat inspections. The tournament hours are 7
a.m. to 3 p.m. Weigh-in begins precisely at 3 p.m., with awards to follow.
The general public is invited to the weigh-ins to watch and learn what
tactics worked during both pre-fishing and the tournament itself.
“Teams can still sign up on Sunday morning. Just show up, and we’ll take
care of the paperwork. We also invite the public to our weigh-ins. They are
exciting and interviews with the top teams will give the crowd techniques
they can use to help them catch more fish,” noted Barringer.
