The long awaited 2003 Minnesota walleye opener is history, and now
walleye tournament anglers can turn their attention to the Grand National
Walleye Cup (GNWC).
Teams competing in the Minnesota Circuit of the Grand National Walleye
Cup (GNWC) are making final preparations for the first qualifier which will
be held Sunday, May 18 on Lake Waconia.
“We are really excited to be able to offer Minnesota anglers this new
concept in walleye fishing, and we’re looking forward to opening our season
at Lake Waconia,” said Executive Director Bernie Barringer.
According to Barringer, competing teams should be at Lake Waconia County
Park between 6-6:30 Sunday morning to sign in and participate in mandatory
boat inspections. The tournament hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weigh-in begins
precisely at 3 p.m., with awards to follow.
“Teams can still sign up on Sunday morning. Just show up, and we’ll take
care of the paperwork. We also invite the public to our weigh-ins. They are
exciting and interviews with the top teams will give the crowd techniques
they can use to help them catch more fish,” noted Barringer.
Anglers can call 1-800-890-3474, email the GNWC at [email protected]
or check out the official GNWC website at walleyecup.com for all of the
latest in GNWC information.
Barringer also underscored the importance of The Sportsman Channel as a
major sponsoring partner. “We are very excited to be able to showcase all of
our state championships along with the National Championship on The
Sportsman Channel. For those who do not get the Sportsman Channel, I
encourage you to call your local cable company or satellite television
provider and ask for it.”
Major sponsoring partners for the GNWC include Ranger Boats, Mercury
Outboards, Berkley, Abu-Garcia, The Sportsman Channel and
UpNorthOutdoors.com.
