    hey all,

i’ve never fished in any kind of fishing tournament before but i’d really like to try one this year. i know there are a lot of tournaments all summer long on the river. i was just wondering which you thought would be the best one to get started with for a newbie to tourny fishing?

i have accsess to a plenty capable boat. most of my experince is on pool 4, but i am willing to do the millac thing if there’s any good ones up that way. bass or walleye, i can do both.

now i’m not lookin to pay a lot to enter and i don’t need to win anything. i’m just looking for some experince. maybe there is some kind of pro/am. thing that i could try. would anyone out there be willing to show a good lookin brown haired, blue eyed, energetic 18 year old who likes long walks on the beach the ins and outs of professional tournament fishing . i’m really good with a net.

let me know what ya’ll think.

    Jake,

Got a perty good bass club in Rochester, our website is http://www.angelfire.com/mn3/zvbm/ A good place to try tournament fishing and learn of some well rounded guys. No charge for the tournaments, just a club entry fee.

Many great tournaments to fish, however a perfect one for you…is the Pooh Bear Open. It is the first Saturday in June, registration forms are available at 4-seasons in RW, and also at Everetts..Cost is $25.00 per fisherman..it is a very casual event, although competition is usually very strong…It’s a fundraiser event, although the top fisherman have always been paid atleast $500.00 and it pays down to 7th place I believe…the area donates a ton of stuff and there is a huge prize raffle…everyone leaves with something. We have always had over 60 boats, and included in your $25.00 is a very nice dinner at the Elk’s club after the day….Contact John at 651-388-3571 or Scott at 952-210-3803 for more details…hope to see you there!!

Was nice to see Jake enjoying his first tournament. His smiles told it all. Felt great to be back on the water for the first weekend this year. Steve Wogan and I had alot of fun. Steve was was willing to put away his one ounce jigs and use quarter ounce ones. I’m not much of a plastics guy but we both spent 3/4s of the day fishing superdoos for the first time for both of us and believe it or not–ALL of our keeper size fish came on the superdoos. Needless to say, we both learned to like those superdoos on our first day of using them. A new experience for both of us and now its time to use ringworms and K-Tails and learn some new ways to fish too. Who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks? See ya on the water. Thanks, Bill
