Ken Warren Joins the Pro-Staff for Triton Boats and Evinrude!

    March 16, 2006

Olin, IA—Iowa area tournament angler and director, Ken Warren, today announced his official acceptance into the pro-staff program of both Triton Boats and Evinrude for 2006. Ken will be fishing the 2006 season in a high performance Triton TR20XHPDC powered by a state-of-the-art 225 HO Evinrude E-Tech.

Ken reveals this comes in the wake of a strong 2 year relationship with the sponsoring dealer, Davenport Boat & Marine and says, if you wish to see the great line of products from Triton and Evinrude stop by their showroom on Stark Street in Davenport or call them at (563)326-2431.

Look for Ken at tournaments hosted by the American Bass Anglers and BASS this year for a test ride in the new Triton powered by Evinrude.

    Ken,
How did you pull this off? I received an official letter from Triton “requesting” I move to a Mercury shortly after Triton was purchased. I will be the first to say that if they are letting you run a TR20X with a 225 Etec HO… Good luck brining it up to top speed. I could run it about 78 but still have more to go.. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

    Jeremy,

I hate to question performance, but 78 with a 225??? I doubt that was a GPS speed. I would have to see that to beleive it.

    It was GPS.
I have been running tritons since 2002 and have plenty of time and understand your reservations. I would say the sam thing but until you get a little seat time with a Tr20 you will likily be skepticle. I used to have a 99 Tr20 with a 200 EFI and it ran 70 – 72 depending on water temp. The 2005 Tr20 hull is just as fast and the 225 ETEC HO has aprox 240 HP at the prop. The boat is running a 29 Tempest and turning 5600. If you would like a ride and are somewhere around MN I am sure I can arrange somthing.

I have a 2001 tr20 with a 225 evinrude ficht and when i bought it we got 77.8 gps with 2, 79 with one in the boat on a 26 raker prop. I since have “re-arranged my lower unit” and had it rebuilt, not quite as fast now.

D-Nort, Your just bent that that Blazer is getting a little competition. Yep these are GPS numbers. Ask anyone who fished the Team Supreme Super North last year after I got the boat. They will attest that there isn’t much in the water if any at WOT. That being said they still have a remerkable ride in rough water. Time to switch????

Oh yeah, I stopped at the Rude dealer and found out the Etec HO is putting 248 hp at the prop… I’d say that is a strong motor.

Well I picked up the new ride a couple of weeks ago and still getting used to it. It seems the ETech has more torque than expected so have to go to bigger prop. The current 27″ prop won’t hold it and gets into the limiter. It is already breaking 70mph so hope it will break 80mph with new prop, JC’s help, and additional seat time as a boat can be a handful going that fast.

Here is a picture. Let me know if you’d like a test ride. She’ll be available for sale at the end of the year for about $38k (boat, not the cute girl!) with 6 years left on motor warranty.

Thanks and JC tells me it should. I hope with the bigger prop I will stay off rev limiter and pick up some more speed. Then I just have to learn to drive it. It is a bit scary going that fast. Maybe I’ll start wearing helmet for more than just rain. LOL

During our most recent BFL in La Crosse just a few weeks back, I locked down to pool 9 with about 20 boats (since I drew boat 148 out of 156 I unfortunately missed the first lock). When the locks opened for the second time and we started running down river I walked by everyone until I caught the lead boat. It was Cust Samo in his new Triton. Curt is known for having his boat set up perfect and I know he can get every bit out of his boats. Anyway, I will not lie…I was very impressed with the top end on that boat. He was running ~77 gps. I was gps’ing ~79 with a banged up prop. You can ask the guys what my prop looks like .

So yes, I do agree the new Tritons are getting faster. But I can’t see 80 gps (FULL LOAD). I get to run with E-tec HO’s, Merc XS’s, and whatever else every tournament so I get to see the “real world” numbers and I prove to MANY guys that their boats aren’t even close to what they say during the dock-talk.

But as for your new boat Ken, that is a sweet looking rig and I can gurauntee you’ll be running at the front of the pack with it!
