St Jude Tournament

    All,

I got a couple of call over the last few days so I want to post the information. We have made some changes. We renamed the in honor of Dick Hiley. Dick was on the planning committee and was passionate about the cause. Dick was fighting his own battle with cancer and he wanted to do everything he could to not have anyone else go through what he was experiencing. Dick lost his battle in 2004. The Zumbro Valley Bassmasters have assumed a bigger role in organizing and running the tournament.

We are moving the tournament to Wabasha to for safety reasons. Seems like we have had strong winds every year and Lake Pepin can be very dangerous. We want to thank the people of Lace City for being such great hosts.

We moved the date to May 6 and 7 and lost our “grandfather” status for a large DNR permit so we are planning on a 50-boat tournament. Invitations are going to teams based on their fundraising history. I think a quote by one of the committee members hits the nail on the head. “This is a fundraising event with a tournament, not a tournament with a fundraiser”.

Our goal is to continue the growth in the dollars raised. Because we have fewer teams we’ll have to work harder at fundraising this year. If you know of potential sponsors we sure would like to hear about them.

There seems to be a rumor circulating that this will be the last year. I want to dispel that right now. We are committed to St Jude and the tournament and have no plans to stop.

    John

I never thought I would see the day that I would be supporting a Bass tourny!!!!

Well, I guess I’m not, I’m supporting St Judes.

Prior to a month ago, I had know idea what St Judes was or did…actually, I don’t think I’ve heard of them before. So I did a little web surfing….

What a great idea and cause!

My hats off to all that are involved with this event.

Here’s a link to the fund raiser just south of Hastings that I’ll be attending. If Chris would have one of those “dunk boxes” there. I’m thinking the bass guys would donate $10 bucks to see me get dunked!

    See you bassholes there!!!

City park? Guess I wouldn’t use much gas in that tourney!! Next you’ll say that the park area is off limits!! And won’t that mess up the parking for other none-tourney people? Are they bussing them to their boats and/or making them park somehwere else?

They are using the public landing. We have to park in the gravel lot next to the baseball diamonds. We will not be parking in the ramp parking area.
