I am involved in a Police Reserve Unit that may be interested in holding a small tournement that involve kids during the up coming summer. It’s never been done in town, that I know of, and any advise would be appreciated as we consider this project. I have looked into permits and it appears that the permit would be free but that I have to clear it with the local DNR water manager.
Becouse it involves kids and parents it would be an hour or 2 tournement. Getting donations of prizes will be a challenge
but not impossible. And we have time. We’re looking at around the third weekend of July during the city celebration.
I don’t know if you need anymore information. But I will respond if more requests for info come in. Or you can e-mail me at [email protected].
Thanks a lot for the help.

If you have more than 15 boats you will need a permit. The DNR in Minnesota won’t issue permits in the summer months. But Wisconsin probably will so I would check with them. Bill

It is going to be a shoreline event on a non-motorized lake.

Are saying that we need to apply for the permit now in order to get one?
Do you know who the Dnr manager is for the Hastings area is?
Maybe I should give him a call.
    Thanks

If the entry fee is $25 or less, (Total prizes must not excees $25,000) or the number of participants is 30 or less, you do not need a permit in Minnesota.

    Good Luck,

    hey chappy,

you’d be suprised at how easy it is to get prizes donated. we had a raffle at our school this winter and all we did to get prizes was ask. we got something from almost evvery business we went to. just let them know it’s for kids and i’m sure you won’t have to tough a time as long as you don’t care exactly what you get. restaruants are usually good for gift certifacates. booth target and shopko gave us $50 to give away. and best buy hooked us up with a X-BOX. thats liek a $300 value.

it might be a little harder to find actual fishing related prizes, but you’ll never no until you ask.
