Well I’m off to the 2005 ABA National in Shreveport, LA. With diesel hitting $3.09 and gas about as bad I beginning to wish I had not sent in the deposit. Sure is getting tough to travel for a tournament with these prices.

Anyway Sun-Tuesday are practice days then Wed-Friday are competition days. If I have a cell signal for the laptop I may jump in and let you know how I’m doing or you can check the ABA web site for daily standings.

See you when I get back with the new Triton I’m going to win.

Well I had a decent day and should be sitting in about 35-40th place. I caught a small limit of a mix of Kentucky and Largemouth and my partner had about the same weight with 4 fish. Now as fate would have it he had motor trouble coming back and we could not get to the ramp in time to weigh the fish. So instead of the top 10% I’m stuck in last place.

Oh well that is part of the game. I plan to come out kicking tomorrow but it is a tall hill to climb in 2 days.

Well day 2 is over and I was only able to find 2 small fish. At least I’m on the board now with 2.28lbs. The wind got up today and changed the bite significantly. I took me nearly all day to adjust to the new bite.

Yesterday’s DQ really weighed on me today and I think it affected my performance. I couldn’t shake the feeling of being to far behind to make a difference. Tomorrow I’m just going out and have fun. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get big bass for day 3 which pays $3000.

Well as it turned out the fishing gods weren’t with me and I had a miserable finish. I caught more fish on the final day that any other day but could not find a keeper. This just goes to show that tournament fishing is a mental game and I was unable to “shake it off” and perform after my day DQ.

Beyond that I must say the people in Shreveport were great and I had an outstanding time. It is a great place to fish and they even have a big Bass Pro Outdoor World right on the shore.

If you are ever down that way I’m sure you’d have a good time if there wasn’t 450 anglers pounding it for 6 days. We time to get started for next year!!
