I would like to congradulate all the pro anglers that qualified for this years MWC Walleye Championship in Prairie du Chien.

It was a very tough bite for all anglers as the waters were about 4′ above normal river stage. Compitition was tough with all the teams trying for the $25,000 1st place check.

The first day 16 boats were caught up on the north side of lock and dam # 9 and they didn’t get to weigh in their fish. I was told that their was several 5 fish limits and also a woppin 9 pounder in their live wells. Randy Blasczyk and Matt Daanen were in first place after day 1 with 15.53 lbs.

After day two was over the team of Robert Bodin and Scott Mann were in the top spot after weighing in a two day 10 fish limit of 24.10 lbs .

And after day 3, In 3rd place was the team of Robert Lauridsen and Kim Spigarelli . Coming from 11th place they recorded a weight of 14.55 lbs. and a very nice walleye of 6.34 lbs. Total weight for all three days was 28.18 lbs. HIGH FIVES GUYS

And in 2nd place trying to sneak into 1st place by recording 8.65 lbs.on day three was the team of David Lange and Mark Kordus These guys held on to 2nd place all the way through the Championship. They finished with a total weight of 31.28 lbs. Well done guys !!

And the Championions of this Tournament , after a 12.11 third place spot after day 1, moving up to 1st place after a 11.99 pound 2nd day, the pressure had to be heavy with any team still in the hunt. They weighed in a 3rd day total of 10.63 lbs. for a total weight of 34.73 lbs. to WIN the CHAMPIONSHIP

Congradulations to Robert Bodin and Scott Mann

Great coverage Bud. Thanks for the info AND photos. Reports are so much more enjoyable to read when a EFN Media Pro-Staff person is on the scene. Thanks much, Bill

I would like to thank all the sponsers and teams for one special thing. I think it is GREAT that the teams, when they pulled through the weigh in site that they handed out several items to the kids !!!! Rod and reel pacs, lures, disposable cameras, hats, and even frisbees as seen in this attachment

Now thats COOL! Tournament Sponsors and Tournament Fisherman carrying about other people and younger fisherman and fishergals. Just goes to show that tournaments and fisherman and families and kids all go together. Its getting to be more of a family outing at the weigh ins now and thats great!

I’ve got lots of pictures but the last one is very important too. Thanks to the Genoa National Fish Hatchery for safely getting all the walleyes and saugers back to the Mississippi . There were 343 fish caught in this event.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this event and I hope to see you all again next year.

    Ok …a couple more…..

I met up with these two guys. I really like the attitude these to guys had. They missed the weigh in on day one but never showed it if it got them down. They showed me that no matter what never let your dobber down because anyone at any givin time can put a large weight limit of fish in the boat. Paul was telling me that there were several boat circling out in front on the spill way on day one . Each one waiting for the other to run their rig over the top(lots of water running over it and the locs were tied up with barge traffic and time running out to meet the weigh in ) . I wish I could have been their with the camera .

The winners are a long standing MWC team from Red Wing Mn. and are always up toward the top in the tournaments. Great River Fishing Machines these guys are.

Getting back to talking about talking about tournament fisherman giving to kids and how excited the kids are to get something from the tournament fisherman: I was sitting with my friend Ralph Derricks at the RCL Championship, as a proud Dad, waiting to see my son Nate come to the stage to weigh his fish and a child came up to Ralph and asked him if he would autograph his new fishing hat for him. Now Ralph, who is a Pro-Fisherman, Guide, and owner of Four Seasons Sports in Red Wing, has been thinking about retiring from tournaments. I looked at the excitement in the boys eyes as Ralph signed his hat and I also saw the happiness in Ralphs eyes as he signed that hat and made that boy happy. I asked Ralph if he really wanted to give that up and Told him I didn’t think he did because it was in his blood. In his blood is the thrill of not only tournament fishing but also seeing and helping someone enjoy fishing. Tournament weigh ins are becoming a great spectator sport because people of every age enjoy the excitement and glamor and fun of seeing fisherman bring their fish to the scale, hear how they caught the fish and learn how to catch more fish themselves by learning how fish were caught under any and all conditions. I am VERY far from being the kind of fisherman that you have seen fish in this Championship BUT I can say I have learned more about catching fish from fishing tournaments than I could of ever hoped to learn somewhere else in a life time. Where else can you have 10-200 boats out on the water trying different things to catch fish all at once and learn what worked and what didn’t work under the conditions each fisherman was fishing under. Thanks, Bill

AH, Bill and Barb, B and B Bait Boxes, the best crankbait box on the market and we sell them on the website in the EFN Store. Just for the record, Both Nate and I bought some of these several years before the EFN Store had them so this is not just a plug for the store, these are great crankbait boxes. So I can and do highly recommend them from experience.
