MWC WALLEYE TOURNEY SEPT. 21-22
CIRCUIT FINALE TO DECIDE TEAM OF THE YEAR & CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
Minnetonka, Minn. – The fourth and final Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC)
qualifying tournament of the 2002 season, the Lindy Legendary Tackle/Lund
Automotive MWC Team Tournament, will take place Sept. 21-22 on Lake Pepin
(Mississippi River, Pool 4) at Lake City, Minn. The area covers 53,000
fishable acres of water between the Red Wing and Alma dams.
Teams will be competing for a cash payout in excess of $67,700, based upon
an anticipated field of 140 teams. The top 24 teams would share the prize
money, with $16,500 going to the winners.
The tournament will be co-hosted by the Frontenac Sportsman’s Club (tel.
1-651-345-5035) and the Lake City Chamber of Commerce (tel. 1-888-999-2619
or 1-651-345-4123, <http://www.lakecity.org)/> http://www.lakecity.org). Teams
will launch at the Roschen Park and the old marina complex boat ramps at
7:00 a.m. daily. Weigh-ins will take place in Lake City’s McCaill Park, new
marina complex, beginning at 3:00 p.m. each day. The public is invited to
attend.
The 2002 MWC Team of the Year will be decided at the tournament. The title
is awarded the team that totals the most points during the circuit season.
The winners will receive $6,000 from the MWC. Current points leaders are
Minnesotans, Richard Nascak (Winona) and Brad Kaczorowski (Lewiston) with
306 points. They are closely pursued by the Wisconsin father and son team,
Jim Minnema (Randolph) and Tim Minnema (Markesan). The Minnema’s are coming
off of a win at the Bays de Noc, MI MWC tourney held Aug. 24-25. They lead
the MWC Family Team of the Year race with 276 points. The reigning MWC
Husband and Wife Team of the Year, Chris and Gina Gasser (Random Lake, WI)
are in the lead to retain their title with 184 points. Each winning team of
these two categories will receive $1,000. The top 40 point accumulating
teams will be invited to fish the 2003 MWC World Walleye Championship
tentatively scheduled Oct. 16-18 on the Mississippi River at Prairie du
Chien, Wis.
This season’s MWC tournaments and championship are featured on The Outdoor
Channel television network, allowing teams to receive national media
recognition. The Lake Pepin tournament will air October 25th at 5:00 p.m.,
October 27th at 9:00 a.m. and October 28th at 8:30 p.m., Eastern Standard
Time.
Tournament coverage and related articles also appear in the North American
Fisherman magazine, the official publication of the MWC. All circuit events
are conducted from Cabela’s state-of-the-art, computerized mobile transport
vehicle, which is specifically designed for tournament television coverage.
Additionally, all MWC tournaments will serve as qualifying events to the
2003 Cabela’s National Team Walleye Championship.
In addition to Cabela’s, MWC sponsors include Berkley Trilene, Lindy
Legendary Tackle, Lowrance Electronics, Lund Truck Accessories, Mercury,
North American Fishing Club, Ranger Boats, Cotton Cordell, Flambeau, Leer
and United Sports & Leisure Products, Panther Marine.
