Hello all, we are kicking around adding a district to the American Bass Anglers Tournament Trail for 2005 farther up the river. We currently have tournaments from Pool 11 down to Pool 17, but seems to be a great deal of avid fishermen up there as well.

I’d very much like to hear you’re comments on the idea as most of the people on this forum are from that area or farther north. I’m not looking to replace any circuit there now but rather add to the choices available. All comments are welcome but here are a couple of specific questions.

    1) Are there too many tournamets there now?

    2) Would you be interested in the draw format that ABA offers?

For more info on the American Bass Anglers click here.

Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you have comments you don’t want to post.

I think that would be great. But, do pools 7-10. Suits me better. Draw tourneys are fun and I think there needs to be more of them.

However, you may find it difficult to get get open weekends. With the MSBC, BWS, BFL, and a ton of other once a year tourneys things get crowded in a hurry.

I would like to see ABA up on this stretch of the river. Something to think about when scheduling is possibly try and scedule all of these events the day after another event. This way anglers can pre-fish on Friday for two tournaments. I know Team Supreme does this and I think it works out well, but that just may be my though.

Scheduling is my toughest problem. I have to have the 2005 schedule in by July. The ABA is so large it takes considerable time to get all of the national flyers together. So our schedule is usually the first one out and I can not avoid other tournaments and we find we don’t get considered by others trails very much.

Due to the way ABA works, however, if you do have a conflict you can always travel to another district if you need it to qualify for the national. Points from any district will apply.

Ken, more the better for me- more choices (as you know i sometimes have conficts). I love the format, and i know pool 10 reasonably well. Would be fun to add some new water and new faces. JJ

OK well it sounds like there is a little interest. Since I’ll be new to that area. Can I get some advice on ramps? Should be plenty of parking for at least 20 boats and would like to find ones that might not be as likely to have other tournaments using them.

Also, let me ask directly. Would you fish the ABA if we were on those pools or are you too busy with other circuits?

    Thanks

    Ken,
The ramps that are good for 8-10, are Clinton St. in LaCrosse on pool 8, State Ramp in Lansing on pool 9, and the Washington St. or Lawler Park landing in Prairie Du Chien on pool 10. I would try and fish these events, what is the entry fee?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Entry is $55 per person plus $10 if you want in Big Bass rules and such can be found here.

Ken, there is a small ramp in Marquette next to the gambling boat on pool 10, there is also a state dnr (free) ramp in Harpers ferry on pool 10. this would allow you to stay in iowa and avoid that no-cull stuff in wisconsin. The city ramp in lansing is nice for pool 9. I can tell you how to get to these ramps if you wanted. Are you expanding your district or making a new one? JJ

IF ABA doesn’t interfere w/any other tourneys i’m in and I can afford it, I’ll probably fish them.

    JJ,

I think it would just be another district. But I’m not sure. I guess it really doesn’t matter it would just make things a little cleaner and allow us to have 2 two-day events. This would be benefical if a two day went bad for someone they could make it up.

That is the nice thing about ABA. As far as the fishermen are concerned the district boundary doesn’t mean much. Points are points reguardless of inwhich district they are earned.

BTW JJ,Congrats on the win in District 46 yesterday.

I agree, the versatility is what drew me to ABA- for those of us who have to work some weekends it makes it difficult to re-arrange call schedules to fit with some of the other circuits well enough to fish all the events and qualify for the nationals or other large tourneys. You can kind of pick and choose your spots to earn pts. One of these years i am gonna convince the wife to go to Guntersville or somewhere south in early spring when the water here is a little to firm to fish (at least while casting).

Thanks, as the saying goes, the sun shines on every dogs back side every once in a while. Should be up on to savanna the 6th unless something happens between now and then to prevent it.
